5 Unusual Guest Book Alternatives

Décor & Flowers

You’ll find Love Heart Paper Bunting for €9.00 at the shop

Delight your guests by asking them to sign something entirely different to a guest book – you’ll love these five ideas, and so will they!

1. Wish box

A wish box is a fantastic alternative to a traditional guestbook for those newlyweds who like to put things on display. Wish boxes come in all shapes and sizes, but we absolutely love the idea of elegantly rolled up scrolls, neatly arranged in a stylish box you can either hang on a wall or put on display in a bookcase. A great way to customise this is to get the paper scrolls in colours that match your wedding, then arrange all the signed scrolls into any pattern you like, or leave in artful disarray according to your fancy. If you are having one colour, blue for example, get scrolls in different shades and hues of blue! Years down the line you will love pulling out the little messages and reading them once again. Another fantastic reason to love this option – if someone couldn’t attend your wedding you could send them a blank scroll and ask them to sign it, then add it to the box! It would be a bit of an inconvenience to ship your guestbook, but a scroll is a whole different story! This way, people who have missed your wedding will be able to add their special wishes to the bunch.

2. Finger print tree

Finger print trees are becoming more and more popular and it’s no wonder – once completed, they are a wonderful work of art that is totally unique, no two finger print trees are ever the same! It’s not just the tree and the colours – you can’t imagine how many things you can do to make a finger print tree into a most wonderful reminder of your wedding and all who attended. First, there are the inks – get any colour you like, ours comes with pinks which are perfect for home décor (do keep in mind this will very likely hang framed in your home after the wedding!) Then there is the tree itself – you can have a beautifully printed one, or you could ask an artistically inclined guest or member of the wedding party to draw a custom one just for you! We even heard of a bride who had a photo taken of a tree outside her wedding venue, then made a drawing out of it for her fingerprints – isn’t it a fantastic idea? This way, the tree will forever remind her of the venue where her wedding was held. The wonderful thing about the finger print trees is that they can be made in any size to accommodate any size wedding – intimate or large. They also make fantastic gifts – for example, you could have a little one drawn and finger printed by all the bridesmaids and groomsmen, then have it professionally copied and individually framed with an added thank-you message to each member of the bridal party. The possibilities are truly endless – and the results always lovely!

3. Signing frame

Another wonderful option for those couples who love to display the wedding day messages instead of keeping them in a book – a signing frame. A truly stylish and long-lasting option, it features your favourite photo from the wedding, the engagement photoshoot, or even a couples’ caricature for a fun twist on the tradition! A professional option is always recommended as the signatures will last forever without fading, but you can go all the way with DIY too! Guests can sign anything, from poster board to canvas, which you will take for framing after the wedding.

4. Jenga

A personalised wedding deserves something completely unique – why not a Jenga guest book? Combine fun with nostalgia and always remember your wedding when you take out the Jenga to have a game. Mind the number of guests and you don’t need to get multiple sets – each piece has four sides, so have the guests sign any blank side. Before you buy your Jenga be sure to check what can be used to write on it, as the blocks most commonly come in wood or plastic, so you will need permanent markers to make sure the messages don’t rub off. For an extra big idea, use giant Jenga, those blocks will take up more space in storage, but they also have much more space to write the messages! It’s also a great idea to keep this as a surprise for the guests – they will likely expect a traditional guest book, but they will be presented with a fun and unusual option instead!

5. Bunting

Last but not least – a fantastic keepsake you can store in a treasure chest after your wedding and take out on each anniversary to decorate your home for the party… it’s signed bunting! Limitless options for personalisation are at your disposal here – you can buy paper or fabric bunting, you can make or sew your own, or you can ask a crafty DIY friend or even make it a group activity with your bridesmaids or family! We recommend fabric bunting as you can expect it to last longer than paper. In the DIY route anything goes – the sky is the limit for fabrics and patterns, and don’t forget the ribbon or twine you’ll need to hang it upon, or go ready-made. Two things to keep in mind – make sure to have at least as many triangles as you’ll have guests (allow a few extra, just in case), and purchase special fabric markers (also known as graffiti pens) to make your messages permanent. The markers come in many colours for extra fun! An unusual way to use the bunting is to send a triangle to each guest before the wedding and ask them to return it with the RSVP. You would then string the bunting together and use it to decorate your wedding venue – the guests will arrive to see their messages proudly displayed, they will love it!
