7 Sweet Ways to Surprise Your Groom on the Big Day

The Groom

Looking to surprise your hubby-to-be on the wedding morning or make him feel extra special? Check out these 7 sweet ideas…

Personalised Hanger (above)

We came across this idea on Wedding Chicks and we just loved it! If you’re looking for a way to make your groom (or bride) tear up and smile this adorable idea should do it. Have a sneaky groomsman pop the hanger under his suit on the QT (or if you know he won’t be tempted to try on the suit the night before you could do it yourself) so it’s all ready to surprise him come suit time on the wedding morning.

Personalised Tie

Another lovely way to surprise your groom is with a personalised message hidden on his tie. When he goes to put it on on the wedding morning, it would be the cutest surprise – if you’re handy with a needle and thread (or your mam or gran is) you could try your hand at one yourself but if you’re not the creative type, you can pick up heart shaped patches with your very own personalised message on the likes of Etsy.

The Jacket

If he’s not wearing a tie or you know he’ll get more use out of his suit down the line, you could arrange to have a message embroidered or printed on the inside (or you could tuck a handwritten note in the inside pocket if you’re not keen on messing with his suit). We’ve seen everything from ‘today I marry my best friend’ to ‘this is the suit I wore on my wedding day’ and even’ last chance to run’ if you’re looking to give him a laugh.

Shoe Stickers

If you’re looking to inject a bit of fun in to the day, and surprise your hubby or wife-to-be while you’re at it, shoe stickers are a cute way to go about it. The pic above is from a Spanish wedding – Felizes means ‘Happily Ever After’ and along with the date, it is a lovely little reminder of this special day. Your guests will also get a kick out of them when you kneel down at the wedding ceremony. If you’re after something personalised, there are lots of suppliers on Etsy offering this fun service.

Tears of Joy Hankies

If you’re sure he’ll be tearing up at some stage during the day, a personalised hankie or pocket square is a lovely gift idea – practical and fun. Even if he isn’t the most emotional of guys, a handkerchief is a lovely blank canvas to write a heartfelt message and it’s something he can keep after the Big Day. If you don’t want anything overly sentimental, you can opt for his initials or a monogram from the likes of Etsy (if you love the slick monogrammed style, you can pick up everything from cufflinks and shirt cuffs online for that personal touch).

Personalised Cuff Links

Cuff links are a great gift idea for the groom and there are some very sweet varieties that will remind him of this special day any time he reaches for them. Notonthehighstreet stock little envelopes with hidden messages and picture frames where you can pop a snap of you both or if you’re not mad on the idea of cuff links, but want something in the jewellery line, there are lots of lovely tie clips available online or pocket watches that you can get engraved to make it extra special.

The Car

One of the weddingsonline girl’s surprised her hubby on the wedding morning by having a swanky Maserati pull up to take him to the church in style and we thought it was genius! If you’re hubby-to-be loves his cars this is a winner and will make the journey to the ceremony even more memorable. The weddingsonline supplier directory is full of gorgeous cars if you’re still looking for something special – browse them here.
