A Gold & Multi-Coloured Vintage Wedding!

Real Weddings

It almost didn’t happen because of an overly friendly American couple and some sea-sickness, but when Johnny got down on bended knee, Shelly said yes instantly! She knew he was the ‘one’ from the night he sang to her at the top of his voice in Eddie Rockets on New Year’s Eve!

They didn’t particularly chose a wedding colour theme, but a palette of gold and bright pops of multi-coloured accessories really fit their vintage-chic atmosphere in Co. Offaly.

We are the Mastersons captured their very unique and personal wedding day. Picture a Marilyn Monroe inspired dress and multi-coloured Gerber daisies, fans and parasols.

We absolutely dare you not to take inspiration from this fabulous, fun wedding!

Here is Shelly and Johnny’s love story…

WOLWOL

We met… In Galway, on a boozy New Years Eve weekend. We passed each other on the street, locked eyes for a moment and flirted.  Later we met again at a bar and the sparks began to fly.  His big cheeky smile and absolute shameless honesty captured me immediately.  He also sang his own rendition of Withering Heights from start to finish, at the top of his voice, in Eddie Rockets. Given the fact that I only crawled under the table as opposed to running for the hills, probably meant there would eventually be a future.

Your first impressions of Johnny… Handsome, cheeky, persistent, and above all, so much fun.

Johnny’s first impressions of you… Sexy (his words), a bit of a challenge and great craic.

Our proposal…  With a ring shoved in his pocket, Johnny tried to propose to me several times on a Caribbean cruise.  The setting was so romantic and perfect. However, we acquired two new friends, an American couple, who felt they should join us as much as possible and that coupled with my sea sickness, it was completely impossible for Johnny to propose, so he gave up.  On our last night in Miami, as we strolled hand in hand at midnight on South Beach, Johnny proposed on bended knee.  I was taken totally by surprise! He said the most amazing things and I accepted almost instantly, but first asked one very important question ‘is this my real ring?’ It was not, and I breathed a silent sigh of relief.  He is a brave man, but not that brave

Our ceremony… was my favourite part of the whole day.  We had a blessing by Dara Molloy and my brother and cousin played music, it was intimate and full of love.

Our favourite part of the day…  Our ceremony. It was truly unique and beautiful.

Our wedding/ theme colours… We didn’t actually stick to a particular colour.  A light gold shade came up a lot as well as multi-colours in my Gerber daisies, fans and parasols. I wanted a fresh and relaxed theme.

My dress…  was a ballet-length, vintage, glamour, ivory, dress inspired by Marilyn Monroe.

Advice for other brides… Try not to get stressed about anything and enjoy every single second.  Get in touch with plenty of suppliers and venues and then short-list the ones you want to view. Involve your partner and give him his own responsibilities, do not take it all on by yourself.  Linda McLorrum from Perfect Irish Weddings was my amazing planner and helped to co-ordinate my day.  I won her services through a competition, but if you can afford one it is definitely worth the splurge.

Focus on the truly important things, like your friends and family enjoying themselves. Spend money on the things that matter – a really good photographer and a unique and special ceremony. Most of all enjoy each other, it is truly the best day of your lives and a journey that you take together.  I have never loved my husband as much as I did on that day, I almost exploded with happiness!
