My sister got married three years ago and it’s my turn now! I remember she had a really stressful time trying to get people to RSVP – how do I make sure people RSVP for my wedding? I really don’t want to end up tearing my hair out with a week to go and no numbers! – Sorcha

So many brides have the same problem! Nowadays there really is no excuse for not returning an RSVP in some form or another. Some couples set up an email address like [email protected] and they add this onto the reply details of the invitation along with a contact number and the postal address. You can also include a reply card in with your invitations. You can have the return address printed on the envelopes and you can even go as far as putting a stamp on it for them!

Hi Sorcha, unfortunately you cannot get people to respond if they don’t want to – no matter what options you try!  However, here are a few tips that might help hurry things along –

1. Add in an email address

2. Give guests an RSVP Card with reply date on it

3. Number your RSVP Cards to correspond with names so that when Aunty Mary replies but forgets her name you will know who she is

4. Add a stamp to RSVP Card (I personally think it’s an unnecessary cost!)

An RSVP card is a good option – these can be done as postcards so that all the guest has to do is put on a stamp and pop in the post. If you give guests the option to text, call, email or post their response then you have made it as simple as possible. The reply date is usually one month before the wedding and your hotel will likely need the final numbers a week or two before the big day so it gives you time to chase  up the stragglers! There will always be a few that don’t reply on time, just make sure you have a file with all the info and tick off who has replied and who hasn’t, good luck! Number your RSVP card is also useful as people forget to put their names on them.
