Fashion Inspiration: Bridesmaids in Separates

Bridesmaids

Can’t quite find a dress you like, or one that fits your budget? Separates could be your answer. Be inspired by some of our favourite looks!

So what exactly are separates?

Well, they’re either outfits that are made of two separate parts for a complete set – for example, a skirt and top made of the same material. Or, they’re an outfit put together with completely different skirts and tops to achieve a certain ‘look’, much like you would dress at home from the contents of your own closet. But, of course, much more glam. It’s the second kind that really allows you to make a statement.

Why should my bridesmaids wear separates?

The pros of dressing bridesmaids in separates are aplenty. First, the creativity – there’s literally no limit to the styles you could consider, so finding something every girl loves becomes so much easier. Second, the amount of places to shop becomes unlimited, as you’re no longer restricted to the eveningwear section at any store. Third, you could be very budget-friendly by asking your girls to purchase one item, while you get the rest – for example, you buy everyone a matching lace top, and each one of them then buys her own skirt in the style she likes best, but in an agreed colour. It’ll make them happy to be able to choose something that suits their own style – and takes the pressure off you. And last but not least, you’ll be able to create a look that’s totally unique, and if you like that touch of the unusual, this could just be your best option. Not to mention, your wedding photos will look amazing.

What kind of wedding would it suit?

An ultra-traditional wedding with all the trimmings demands an elegant look, so getting it right with separates would require an appropriate amount of effort to find the right pieces. However, you can’t go wrong with designer labels, if you have the budget for this kind of spend. Weddings that are more casual, rustic, and DIY would be perfect for this. There are two styles that work for every type of affair though, and can be adapted with the right accessories – this is any kind of wrap skirt or wrap top (it’s flattering on every figure), or tulle skirts, which are very versatile, easily made and adaptable to every occasion just by changing the length and colour.
