Richie and Ailbhe’s Snowy Winter Wedding

Real Weddings

“Wow” is exactly what we said when we first saw Ailbhe and Richie’s wedding taken by Peter Rowen Photography.

Between the snow, the vintage Christmassy theme, the Vera Wang wedding gown, one very stylish Mother-of-the-bride and Barberstown Castle – everything was perfect for this fabulous couple as they entered into married life together.

Here is their love story…

We met… Through my brother who went to college with Richard.

First impressions of Richie… Very handsome with a great sense of humour.

Richie’s first impressions of you… Gorgeous and funny!

Our proposal… Richie proposed to me on a beautiful sunny September afternoon in St Stephens Green. I met him on my lunch break from work and we went to have a picnic in the park. When Richie proposed to me I nearly died of shock, I had no inkling at all!  He then whisked me off to the Merrion Hotel – it was all very romantic.

My dress… My dress was by Vera Wang. I bought it in Saks Fifth Avenue during a shopping trip to New York with my Mum and Sister. I fell in love with my dress as soon as I tried it on. It was classic and elegant with a vintage look. The dress was fitted and made of old English netting with hand beaded pearls and diamonds on a sweetheart neckline.

Favourite part of the wedding… Walking down the aisle and seeing my husband-to-be standing at the other end.

Our ceremony… Our wedding ceremony was perfect! Our priest, Father Kennedy prepared a personal and touching ceremony. He included everyone and made us all feel at ease. There was lots of laughter and the atmosphere was very intimate and relaxed, just as we wanted it!

Our wedding/ theme colours… Vintage and cream with a touch of winter wonderland, lots of candles, red berries and a Christmas tree of course!

Our photographer… We chose Peter Rowen because his informal, photographic style was exactly what we were looking for. On the day Peter was brilliant, unobtrusive and put everyone at ease. The temperature outside was –12 and there was two feet of snow but Peter still managed to capture all the special moments from our day. We absolutely love our photos and could not recommend Peter more highly.

Our venue… Barberstown Castle was the perfect place for a winter wedding. The medieval banquet hall is cosy and romantic with open log fires and lots of candles. The food was superb and the service was excellent. Richard and his team did everything to make sure our wedding day was perfect. Our day was made all the more special as Barberstown became a winter wonderland, with two feet of snow outside and mulled wine, mince pies and a crackling fires inside. Barberstown Castle comes highly recommended!

Advice for other brides… Enjoy every minute of the day, it goes by so fast!
