This year saw some of the biggest and most anticipated weddings in Hollywood with mega stars such as George Clooney, Angelina Jolie and Kim Kardashian tying the knot in some of the most lavish Big Days we’re likely to see for years to come. Between Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and pretty much the world news media, us mere mortals were treated to a front seat of 2014’s star studded weddings, the photos of which were some of the most retweeted, pinned and posted to date.
Of course the main thing everyone has their eye out for when it comes to celeb weddings is the bride’s dress. With the daily deluge of celeb pics it’s easy to feel like you know your Kims and Angies personally, and can predict exactly what style they’ll be donning when it comes to the suit or dress of a lifetime. While some celebs this year surprised and delighted us, there were of course some that we loved to say ‘meh’ to. For now we’re putting our jealousy constructive criticism to the side and celebrating the brides who got it oh-so-right. So without further adieu, we present our pick of 2014’s most stylish celebrity brides…
Amal Alamuddin in Oscar de la Renta
Amal Alamuddin finally did the impossible in 2014 by getting one of the most suave and notorious bachelors in Hollywood to meet her at the top of the aisle at their celeb jammed wedding in Venice in September. The human rights lawyer looked incredibly elegant in a classic, off-the-shoulder lace A-line gown designed by the inimitable Oscar de la Renta, who posed with the beautiful bride-to-be at a fitting a couple of weeks before the big day.
Angelina Jolie in Versace (with help from the Jolie-Pitt kids!)
Angelina Jolie’s custom made silk Donatella Versace wedding dress wasn’t exactly what we were expecting the sultry siren to wear for her Big Day, but when she did a twirl it all made sense. The classic, A-line dress with its gathered bust and simple waist was subtle and romantic but our favourite aspect was how she personalised the gown with an elaborate train and veil decorated by her children. The kids were given free reign to doodle on the dress, and their drawings were then sewn onto the veil.
Ashlee Simpson in Houghton Bride

Unfortunately for us singer Ashlee Simpson hasn’t released many photos of her gorgeous wedding gown to the public at large, but we think this photo gives the general gist. Ashlee and Evan (actor and son of diva Diana Ross) tied the knot in August this year at a boho style outdoor wedding held at the groom’s mother’s estate. Ashlee looked perfect even as the rain fell in a fab lace two-piece top and skirt by the ultra modern Houghton Bride.
Ashley Tisdale in Monique Lhuillier
Any bride in a Monique Lhuillier gown is going to look nothing short of incredible, and Ashley Tisdale truly embodied the spirit of the designer on her Big Day. Ashley looked ethereal and enchanting for her ceremony, with a tulle skirt floating over her fitted lace gown with capped sleeves. For the afters, the High School Musical star removed the tulle overlay to reveal the stunning sheath beneath. We loved the boho style fresh floral hair piece the actress wore also, which added a youthful feel to her overall look.
Fearne Cotton in Peter Dundas
Speaking of boho brides, our ultimate boho babe of the year award has to go to TV and radio presenter Fearne Cotton who cut a cute and youthful look in her ankle length Peter Dundas dress. The bride sparkled with a bang on trend silver sequin embellished neckline and soft wrap bodice, finished beautifully with delicate silver strappy heels.
Angela Scanlon in Sorcha O’Raghallaigh

Ireland’s newest ‘It’ girl and general all-round sweet and stylish egg Angela Scanlon tied the knot with boyfriend Roy Horgan in July this year, looking as effortlessly ethereal as we have come to expect from the elegant fashionista. Angela’s gorgeous gold lace bodice gown was designed by Offaly native Sorcha O’Raghallaigh (whom you might know as the designer of the gown Lady Gaga called ‘my wedding dress’ when she appeared on the Graham Norton Show) and showed off the stylist and presenter’s laid back personality to perfection.
Olivia Palermo in Carolina Herrera
Whatever you think of reality star and society girl Olivia Palermo, there’s no denying she is one stylish lass. The star of MTV’s The Hill’s got hitched this year in a low-key, high fashion wedding from which she shared just two photos with the public. Unsurprisingly Palermo was a fashion-forward bride, wearing some daring separates like her Carolina Herrera embroidered tulle skirt over white shorts and a simple chic cashmere sweater. The bride accessorised to perfection with a pair of blue Manolo Blahniks and a pretty beaded bracelet.
Poppy Delevigne in Chanel
The somewhat overshadowed sister of Cara and model in her own rite Poppy Delevigne looked every inch the supermodel bride this year in her custom made Chanel Couture wedding gown. The dress was embellished with pretty floral applique and sparkling and delicate beading throughout. The silhouette was one of the most unusual we’ve seen in bridal this year, with its dropped waist, high neckline and sheer underskirt and perfectly suited the bride’s supermodel shape and boho style.
