Ballinacurra House – Where Privacy Makes the Difference

Guest capacity: 130 | Prices start from €40.00 | ballinacurra.com

The beautiful, award-winning Ballinacurra House in the gourmet capital of Ireland hosted their Premier Wedding Showcase, Menu Tasting and Cookery Demonstration on Saturday 21st February 2015. Nestled on the edge of the seaside town of Kinsale, this private country manor epitomises style and can be exclusively yours for the extent of your wedding celebrations.

Owners Des and Lisa McGahan have 25 years events experience and have pioneered the idea of the ‘Private Exclusive Wedding’, which is central to the venue’s success. It is this ‘exclusivity’ that makes the venue so special according to proprietor Des. “You’ve essentially got a mansion to yourselves so it is much more intimate,” says Des. “You can enjoy the seaside glamour of a totally private estate, offering bespoke food and beverage options, award winning design of rooms and a more personalised wedding offering – combined with the world class location of Kinsale which has so much to offer.” Couples also have the option of day after celebrations to look forward to where they can embrace the local offerings or have the run of the house and indulge in an unplugged session with their closest family and friends. It also boasts a Cuban Cocktail Bar, the first of its kind in Ireland – and the perfect spot to retire to for post-wedding recovery drinks and cigars.

The wedding showcase included menu tasting and a cookery demonstration with Head Chef, David Rice in the onsite Kinsale Gourmet Academy. David cooked for the Queen when she visited Ireland and has worked in Michelin Star restaurants most of his career. But the “unbelievable food” and custom-made menu option is just one of the attractions that draw couples to this bespoke wedding venue. Situated in the heart of the picturesque Kinsale, guests have a host of brilliant facilities and attractions on their doorstep to chose from should they decide to make a weekend out of the wedding celebrations, everything from scenic walks to thrilling water sports – and of course the opportunity to sample the array of delicious sweet and savoury goodies from this renowned foodie hotspot.

But you don’t have to venture out to the local town if you don’t fancy it. The 40 acre estate has everything you need onsite for a fun and romantic weekend including an outdoor entertainment patio, croquet lawn, playground, picnic lawn and a stream and pond for those romantic strolls on its ground. Its magnificent south-facing walled gardens and surrounding woodlands offer stunning photo opportunities for wedding couples and guests alike.

Ballinacurra House is not just for couples that dream of hosting a summer soirée – winter weddings are just as appealing with open fires throughout the house adding to its charm, ideal for those that love the idea of a cosy mulled wine drinks reception by a roaring fire. And unlike other holiday towns, Kinsale has a large local population and promises a great buzz year-round so guests can explore whatever the season. Ballinacurra is also just 20 minutes from Cork International Airport and is close to the motorway so is easily accessible to those near and far.

Ballinacurra is also becoming an increasingly popular option for international couples after an idyllic destination wedding in an old country manor with a stunning backdrop. “Approximately 60% of our weddings now come from overseas as the cost of weddings here are in some case 50% less than say New York, Paris or London,” says Des. “It’s not just the venue cost and food and beverage that is less but supplier costs are way below international rates. Recently I attended a wedding in New York and I was fascinated by the costs charged – you could fly all the guests to Ireland, pay for flights and accommodation for the same as the food and supplier costs. The quality here is more than comparable to international standards but not the cost.”
