As with anything in design, whether it be fashion/furniture/weddings, trends dictate what colour, cut or design is ‘in’! This also applies to wedding stationery. Soft pastel colours are on-trend with Pantone Colour ‘Rose Quartz’ being 2016’s colour of the year and we LOVE it! A gorgeous soft pastel rose pink which complements Spring/Summer or vintage/rustic weddings, any time of year. It’s an
elegant classy tone which is stunning as a background alone, a tasteful ‘pop’ of colour throughout a
design or simply as your font colour!

I’ve seen various trends ‘design-wise’ come and go but in regards to wedding stationery, clean cut designs with elegant touches such as romantic fonts and delicate illustration details are going nowhere! Keep it classy and elegant, legible and neat, and then let the design convey your personality and taste. I’ve become accredited for my vintage and eclectic approach to colour and detail and there’s a noticeable surge in couples wanting to not only put their taste and style into their invites, but they’re also adding a touch of their wedding colour. From the bridesmaid dresses, groomsmen ties to the cake and flowers, clients are tying their colour into their stationery suites now also. Gone are the days of ‘not giving away your wedding colour’ – out with the old and in with the new! Vintage is hugely popular by far, as are floral and watercolour designs, but personalisation of colour is the ‘it’ thing to be doing when planning your wedding stationery in 2016!

As with everything wedding related, each year brings new wedding stationery trends! Here at On
Silver Pond we’re seeing a number of wedding trends emerging that we believe will be huge
for wedding stationery in 2016. We are seeing a move towards the use of bold graphics and type fonts. Couples are opting to use striking graphics and bold type fonts for their invites – think script and calligraphy styles, making a big impact whilst still being very easy to read. Many are using their type font as their design feature, combined with a graphic flourish to tie the whole design together.

We are seeing the use of strong colours such as berry and navy, navy and orange, purple shades
(always popular) and mint (which was popular last year but is really emerging as a popular choice for
2016) – bright, bold colours but used very elegantly. These, set against an ivory or white shimmer card really create a beautiful wedding invitation. In complete contrast to this, we are being asked for very neutral shades to be used – ivory, pale cream and pale grey shades. These couples want understated glamour, beautiful and elegant type fonts, simple, clean designs and beautiful embellishments.

Lace designs are eternally popular, however, we are seeing more and more couples looking for lace
effects rather than the rustic style of previous years. Couples are looking for a classic look that lace
can give but with a modern touch, again using graphics, pretty script type fonts and soft tones of
greys and ivories.

Watercolour designs are the quiet trend that we are seeing emerge for 2016! Watercolour floral
designs are going to be particularly popular – this ties in with the trend towards floral and
watercolour themed cake designs and soft floral bouquets. The trend will grow this year
as couples move away from rustic styles to something with more of a modern vintage feel.

Every year happy couples face the dilemma of choosing a main theme for their wedding but some key wedding trends always remain popular. The wedding invitation gives guests an idea of this theme or the style of the day and for 2016, the rustic theme remains a leading trend – eco papers and earthy colours can easily fit and adapt to everyone’s taste.

We love nature and there’s nothing so naturally charming or as simple and delicate as flowers. The flowers theme is timeless and always fashionable and can work for any type of wedding. Depending on colours and the way they’re used, you can give wedding invitations a romantic or vintage twist or a modern and minimalist feel. Botanical patterns will certainly appear on numerous wedding invitation printouts throughout the year.
