DIY Unity candles

Postby Drummerswife » Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:43 pm

Instructions and original idea from Bella Cullen

To make the candle I just printed the text onto tissue paper, I find it works better if you iron the tissue paper first. Then I cut away any excess paper and laid it out on the candle, you might need a tiny bit of glue to hold it in place. Cover with a piece of greaseproof paper and gently heat with a heat gun, or a hairdryer works fine too, until the paper has melted into the candle and you can no longer see it IYKWIM. Different candles have different melting points but generally it only takes a couple of minutes.

I made my own too - very easily done.

I'd recommend though getting an extra candle though - to practice on. As drummerswife2b mentioned different candles have different melting points.

These are brilliant girls - ye are so talented!

When you say print onto tissue - how do you mean? Like surely tissue or light paper can't go through a printer? Confused! :duh:

OH already came home with unity candles he bought, all delighted with himself after making a contribution but I would love to know how this works to make keepsake candles as gifts for my BMs! Something nice and personalised, I know they'd love that!

I used tissue paper - like what comes in shoe boxes.

I taped the tissue paper onto stronger card and then ran it through the printer

As AA said you just Sellotape it onto paper. (I used paper but possibly card works better).

I also found it's better if the edge of the paper that goes into the printer first is left free of tape (so leave a margin) and make sure all sides are taped down.
