How to keep a retainer clean

Postby moanna » Sun Feb 24, 2013 10:31 pm

I have to wear a retainer as I had braces last year but no matter how many time I clean my retainer with electric toothbrush and toothpaste it's still a bit smelly sorry TMI
Any one else have this I spoke to a girl recently who has same issue?

I have a retaner too. I used to have one with a metal wire and I used to brush it with toothpaste. However, I got a new one a few months ago, more like a gum shield type, and was told not to use toothpaste on it. I rinse it before and after wearing it (wear it at night only every few days) with just water and then every few wears I leave it sitting in water with a very tiny drop of Milton for a few hours and that totally cleans it. The orthodontist's assistant had recommended Milton so I think it's fine to use.

I'm surprised you were given a retainer without being told about Retainer Brite tablets?

Hi, as other posters said, do not use toothpaste. The tablet Retainer Brite are approx €9, I think they are recommeded to use once a week but I use every 3/4 days, they are great.
