Barnardos Bridal Shop Dun Laoghaire

Barnardos Bridal Shop Dun Laoghaire

Postby MrsMcD » Mon Apr 07, 2008 9:42 pm

hello ladies, I've been meaning to put up a post about this shop since i went there on Easter Saturday and i'm only getting around to it now! *)
I just want to let prospecitve shoppers know that my experience here was absolutely fantastic!!! I acutally had my dress purchased within the hour! The lady was so nice and made such a fuss of me, she accessorised every single dress i tried on, nothing was too much trouble, i had 5 women with me and we had such fun. They were allowed to go through all the dresses and make their recommendations and the range was fabulous. The fifth gown i fitted on was " The One " ,its so true what all the wollies have said about finding your dream dress, you just know its you , the moment i had it on i could see myself on our wedding day, i got such a surge of excitement i wanted to get married there and then ! :o0 and even better was the price tag, original r.r.p was €1,800 and i purchased for € 490!!!! :o)ll :o)ll its just a brilliant feeling to know that i have my dream dress and all the money has gone to a well deserved charity. if anyone has any questions they would like to ask me feel free to pm me! :wv

Thats great to hear - I'm hoping to start looking at dresses at the end of May and definitely going to go there!

Did you have to buy and pay for the dress there and then? I'm just wondering if I went there and saw something is there anyway they'd hold it for a day/week just so I could have a look at one or two other places or should I make that my last stop so I know what the other shops have?

Did they have much selection of sizes? I know the dresses are new but are they samples from shops that would be a bit grubby and in need of dry cleaning? /Just wondering what to expect!

Do they do accessories there? I need to get a headband but don't fancy getting it on the 'net in case it doesn't suit... :-8

Morning ladies, I think i read on here before that they would hold a dress for a week, i'm not sure as i didnt ask i just bought it and took it away there and then. The only dress i fitted on that had a mark on it was the one i bought, some fake tan and a mark on the bottom of the dress, my mum sent it to the drycleaners and it came out perfect , and that was €60. The rest of the gowns were in perfect condition. They have tiaras there yes not sure about hairbands but sure just give them a call and they will be happy to tell you. They have dresses ranging in size from an 8 to a 26 i think. I had two appointements made the day i went shopping the first was for barnardos and the 2nd for hickeys , as i said i had the dress got wtihin an hour and just cancelled hickeys. I think you should make it your first appointement, as you could find your dream dress there for alot less money. :wv

Hi Dredagh, my sister tried (unsuccessfully) for 3 days to ring and make an appointment with Barnardos. Really tried, like several times a day, different times, just at 9am when they were opening, etc. Never did get through to them. Would you be able to pm me the telephone number you got through to them on? I found a dress i really like in hickeys, but feel that i really should look in Barnardos, just in case.
Thanks

Barnardos Bridal Dept

Hi

The same thing happened to me, phoned Barnardos bridal loads of time and it always just rang out. I just presumed that it had closed down.

I have been to the Oxfam bridal shop alright, but I didn't see anything.

I did try to ring a while ago and couldn't get through a few times but I did eventually and I was asking about Saturdays - she said the last appointment is 3pm and that you'd need to book a week or two in advance if thats any use to anyone!

hey !i agree with dredagh-i too had a fab experience in barnardos and found my wedding dress!i had no idea that i would find it there but one day my sister and I were passing the shop-midweek-and for the craic said that we would pop in and see what was there!A lovely woman said because they hadnt an appointment til 2pm,that we could have the place to ourselves and let her know if there wasnt anything we needed!(delighted not have anyone watching our every move)!!!!!we had a great laugh trying on all the different dresses-much to my surprise-i found a lovely simple dress-which fitted me like a glove-thankgod and i had to have it!!!it cost me 395 and it was a sharon hoey dress!i bought it that day and i was delighted with myself!!basically-you can be lucky or not-some of the dresses are not in the best condition but they are all new-just worn as sample dresses or at wedding fairs!some more tatty than others and some flawless-P.S their phone was down that week-2/3 weeks ago so try another barnardos number and they will have a connecting number!!goodluck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hiya - excited about this now!

I was in Oxfam today and honestly didn't see a thing. Can you tell me are there dresses in Barnardos for small girls and do they have a good range? Most of the ones in Oxfam today were dirty or needed repairs.

I'd be travelling quite far so want to make sure my expectations aren't too high.

Do they have BM and FG dresses and do they have shoes there? I also tried Oxfam. Not a great selection. I went alone and was very unsure of what dresses suited me. The staff were friendly but hadn't a clue and didn't offer advice or opinions. I would go back though and have a second look. I would love to check Barnardos out, as on a tight budget.
