A Beautiful Black Tie Wedding at Carton House by Ebony & Pearl Photography

“ I walked down the aisle to Canon in D played by the Ammazori Trio, it was an emotional moment.”

The couple: Blathnat McGlynn & Alan Corboy
Length of engagement: 11 months | Wedding date: April 1st 2017
Wedding venue: Carton House, Kildare
Photographer: Ebony & Pearl Photography

We met… My best friend Shauna worked with Alan, she set Alan and I up on a blind date. We met on the evening of the 1st of October 2012, at St. Stephen’s Green gate. A cup of coffee turned into another than a glass of wine!

Our proposal… was in the Merrion Hotel on the 1st May 2016.  A suite was booked, with bouquets of red roses in place for our arrival. I had packed a bag for Blathnat, so the surprise was complete when I walked her in to the lobby after going shopping and asked for the key! A lovely meal that evening was followed by my proposal after dinner in our suite, which caught Blathnat completely by surprise! A magic and unforgettable evening.

My hair and makeup… My hair was done by the very talented Michael Leong, he created a soft Hollywood wave and Paula Callan from Callan & Co created my makeup look.

My dress… I tried on so many dresses in the lead up to our wedding, I soon realised that the vision I had in my head couldn’t be found in any of the bridal boutiques I had visited, and so I met with a dress designer and set about making a custom design. The veil I wore was a family heirloom, also worn by Alan’s grandmother and great grandmother, it is over 100 years old. It helped finish off a classic and timeless look.

His suit… and the suits of his grooms party where all tuxedos by Hugo Boss. Our wedding was Black Tie.

Our ceremony… was the most memorable part of the day for us both. The ceremony took place at 2pm in the Boys’ Chapel of Clongowes Wood College, Alan’s Alma Mater. I walked down the aisle to Canon in D played by the Ammazori Trio, it was an emotional moment.

We chose our photographer because… Emma and Stuart (Ebony & Pearl Photography) were first introduced to us at Alan’s twin sister Nicola Corboy’s marriage to David Mulvany. Their photos were so beautiful, and Emma and Staurt were so professional, discreet and warm on the day, it was an easy decision. Emma did an engagement shoot with us in Autumn 2016 on Killiney Hill.

Our wedding theme/colours… A spring Black Tie wedding accented by cream, blush, ivory. We’re both big spring/summer fans, we love how spring represents vitality and new life, a perfect time to start a new chapter. We wanted a classic look for the day and so chose simple black tuxedos and a timeless bridal gown, we want to look back on the photos in twenty years time and not look too dated!

My favourite part of the wedding day… Blathnat: The Mass – I’m quite old-fashioned like that, I love the tradition of it. Alan: Seeing Blathnat walk up the aisle.

Our honeymoon… South Africa, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Trailfinders created a great itinerary for us – sampling food in world class restaurants in Capetown was our favourite part of the trip

What our bridal party wore… Hugo Boss for the groomsmen, ASOS Bridal range for the bridesmaids and JJSHouse Bridal for the flower girl.

We chose our venue because… Carton House, The Old House, blew us away when we first saw it. An exceptional setting steeped in culture and art that rivals the National Gallery. The grounds are magnificent. Fionnuala is the wedding coordinator in Carton House. She was a great help in the run up to our big day. She was always on hand to answer every single question and query and helped us to relax knowing that we were in her capable hands. Fionnuala ensured everything ran seamlessly on the day.

Our menu… Tian of crab followed by butternut squash soup, main was a choice of steak or sea bass and the dessert was a trio of panna cotta, chocolate brownie and rhubarb crumble

My piece of advice for other couples… Enjoy every second of your initial engagement but get going on plans as early as possible, try and make sure the final month before your wedding is free of any more planning so that you can truly enjoy those magical last few weeks when everyone is so happy for you – soak it all up – it only happens once!
