A Classic Clayton Hotel Galway Wedding by Deirdre Langan Photography

“My favourite part of the wedding day was arriving at the church and seeing Paraic at top of the altar.”

The couple: Vanessa Lydon & Paraic Feeney
Length of engagement: 18 Months | Wedding date: 19th August 2017
Wedding venue: Clayton Hotel Galway, Galway
Photographer: Deirdre Langan Photography

We met… when I was working in a local pub, Paraic used to come in on the weekend when I was working and we got talking and exchanged numbers.

Our proposal… Paraic bought me for dinner to the G Hotel in Galway. After dinner, we got a drink from the bar and sat in the beautiful, comfy chair they have in there and then out of nowhere, he took out this box, opened it and asked me to marry him.

My hair and make-up… I loved this so much. My hair was done by Christina from The Hair Studio. Christina and the ladies were great, so calm the morning of the wedding which made everyone else feel at ease, my bridesmaids had an elegant ponytail with a little beehive, this suited everyone. My hair was in a low elegant bun which was soft and beautiful with my veil and headpiece. Our make-up was done by Fiona Coyne. She is amazing – I wanted something natural for everyone as most of my girls wouldn’t wear make-up everyday and she delivered, she did a great job. We were all so happy with our hair and make-up.

My dress… I bought my dress in Belladonna Bridal, Galway on my first day of wedding dress shopping. I knew this was my dress as soon as I put it on without seeing myself in the mirror, the way it fitted me and felt on was so comfortable. It was an ivory lace dress with crystals through it and my veil was a cathedral veil matching my dress with crystals going through it. Bealladonna Bridal were great to deal with.

His suit… was from Martin Feeney Formalwear in Galway. It was a navy three-piece suit with an ivory tie and tan shoes. They were very professional to deal with and reasonably priced.

Our ceremony… was held in our local church where both Paraic and I were christened which meant a lot to us.

We chose our photographer because… Deirdre (Deidre Langan Photography) had been two of my friends’ photographer for their weddings – we saw their albums and loved her work so our decision was easy. Deirdre had no problem with anything we asked her and was so patient and professional on the day. Highly recommend her to future brides and grooms.

What our bridal party wore… the girls dresses were from Cari’s Closet. They wore dark emerald wrap dresses with gold sandals. Our flower girl wore an ivory dress that I got in Monsoon with a belt in the same colour as the bridesmaid dresses. The groomsmen wore the same as Paraic but with a different colour tie. They were all suited and booted in Martin Feeney Formalwear, including the page boy. The emerald and navy were lovely together.

We chose our venue because… we loved the Clayton Hotel Galway when we saw it at their annual wedding fair, it all looked so magical and we both said we’d like to have our wedding there. Also the food is great – everyone was talking about how good the food was and the staff were so professional and friendly.

My favourite part of the wedding day… was getting ready in the morning, arriving at the church and seeing Paraic at top of the altar.

Our menu… was picked by both of us as we wanted something we both liked and that everyone would eat, so we went with traditional food – starter was Chicken & Mushroom Vol-au-vent followed by Veg Soup, and then a choice of Chicken, Beef or Fish for mains. We had Profiteroles with Chocolate Sauce (my fave) and Apple Tart with Ice Cream (Paraic’s fave) for dessert so guests had small portions of both on their plates which was great – it went down very well.

Our wedding theme/colours… we didn’t actually have a theme, we just went with what we liked and wanted on our day, we had vibrant colour for the bridesmaids’ flowers to match the dresses. Also the hotel had beautiful vibrant colours in their floral arrangements which tied everything together.

My piece of advice for other couples… Enjoy it, the day flies by so fast. Have a great day – remember it’s your day, make the most of it.
