10 Projects to Get You Through the Post Wedding Blues

Planning & Advice

After throwing yourself into wedding planning for months if not years, when it all comes to an end it can be seriously emotional. It’s probably the biggest project you’ve ever undertaken and after such a massive high and months of having fun events like tastings and fittings to attend and a lengthy to-do list to constantly get through, things can seem a little bit flat now that the Big Day has been and gone. It’s not uncommon to experience what’s dubbed as the ‘Post Wedding Blues’ where you might feel incredibly emotional, down or sad – and it’s not just the couple who often feel it, your parents can even get a touch of it too or anyone that was involved in your day.

Of course, your wedding was just one happy event and there’s so many more to come – there’s still lots of fun wedding related things to look forward to from getting your wedding photos to watching your precious DVD for the first time, revelling in the fact you now get to call your partner ‘husband’ or ‘wife’, treasuring the new addition to your ring finger and not worrying about what goes past your lips with fittings looming! But even with all these lovely little moments, there can be a big, gaping hole where the planning was. It was a huge part of your daily life and now that it’s gone, you might need something else to fill that void. Here are some ideas for those struggling with the ‘Post Wedding Blues’…

1. Honeymoon Fun

If you decide to prolong the wedding, you may still have your trip of a lifetime to look forward to – the honeymoon! If you haven’t jetted off just yet, use the time after the wedding to pick up some cute new ‘Mrs’, ‘Mr’, ‘Wifey’ or ‘Just Married’ pieces like a robe, some fun PJs or luggage tags. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite honeymoon travel essentials for newlyweds here for those in need of some shopping inspo!

2. Make Up Photo Albums for Your Parents

If you haven’t given the photographer the go ahead to do photo albums for family members, you can take on this little project yourself. This is a lovely project to get stuck in to after the Big Day, plus you get to indulge in some wedding nostalgia while you’re at it.

3. Add Some Reviews

After months of planning, it’s fair to say you’re a bit of a pro at this wedding planning thing so put your knowledge to good use and help other couples make an informed decision. Reviews are an invaluable way of finding out about a service and it’s a nice way to give some kudos to the people that came together to make your day so special. You can pop up a review for any of your suppliers on weddingsonline by clicking on this link!

4. Write Your Thank You Cards

Thank you cards often go on the long finger and are even forgotten about once the Big Day has been and gone but it’s actually a lovely way to relive your wedding and thank everyone who made the effort to join you or give you a gift. If you’re looking to go one step further, you could even pop a photo of each guest in with your cards as a little memento! Plus it will be great fun reliving all the antics.

5. Submit a Real Wedding Story

Real weddings are a fab way to get some inspo for your wedding and you’ve no doubt trawled through a fair few on the lead up to your own celebrations. Why not create a gorgeous keepsake and inspire other coupes while you’re at it by sending your real wedding story in to be shared on a wedding website. You can see weddingsonline‘s submission guidelines here!

6. Tackle the Legal Side of Things

If you’ve decided to take your partner’s name, there’s a few bits of paperwork you’ll need to get around to with everything from bank cards, your driver’s licence and passport to update. Here in Ireland, it’s not necessary to change your name by Deed Poll if you want to take your hubby’s name, you’ll just need to get a hold of a copy of your marriage license. For banks, you’ll need to pop by your local branch with ID and your marriage licence, you can find out about changing your passport here and to update your driver’s licence, you can find out more here. You may also want to contact the tax office, insurance companies and the likes of your doctor, dentist or healthcare providers to update your records. We’ve a full checklist of all you need to do if you are changing your name here!

7. Work Your Way Through a New Box Set

After months of seating plans, glue guns and budgeting, it can be nice to have a breather to catch up on the must-watch shows of the season you missed out on! Log in to Netflix and start catching up on all those TV shows you didn’t get to gorge on because of tastings, fittings and pinning antics. Or if TV isn’t your thing, get back to the gym, join a book club with your mates or enjoy whatever it is you loved before the wedding planning madness descended.

8. Find a Home for Gifts

Okay, so nobody gets married for the wedding gits, BUT we’re not going to deny it’s kind of nice to have a big batch of cards and pressies to make your way through, like Christmas morning all over again. You’ll undoubtedly receive some gorgeous gifts so make a spot for them in your gaff or do a little re-arrange so you can showcase your lovely new things! Print out some photos and pop them in a frame you received or find a home for that Jenga guest book everyone took the time to sign at your reception.

9. Put Together a Keepsake Box

If you’re looking to soak up the last of the wedding fun, create a lovely keepsake box full of your prized possessions. Pop in everything from a paper from the day you got married to your wedding planning journal, your wedding invite, a copy of your hubby/wife’s speech, your ceremony booklet, a copy of your menu, place cards and any other little mementos you’ve treasured from the day.

10. Celebrate the Firsts

Make a fuss out of your new status as a married couple! Enjoy little milestones like your first month as a married couple, your first meal out together as Mr&Mrs (Mr&Mr/Mrs&Mrs) or booking something with your new name if you make the switch!
