Lisa’s dress… I had been creating boards etc. on Pinterest for a few months, and as my best friend and I were getting married just eight weeks apart and were each other’s bridesmaids, there was plenty of chat about dresses etc. Then one day she sent me a pic of dress she thought would really suit me and it was on sale. I had realised it was one I had Pinned a few weeks before. So chatting to my mum I said “oh this sale is on, should we take a look?” Mind you this was a full 18 months before the wedding so it really was just for a look. However, we came, we saw, we conquered! That day it just seemed everything was meant to be, we got parking so easily in Belfast city centre, there was no queue at the doors (we had seen scary pics on their Facebook) I tried on a different one first – just because – then I tried IT on and that was that! We left the shop with my dress under my arm! I absolutely loved it and knew it was just so me!

Miranda’s dress… I wore a gorgeous Maggie Sottero dress called ‘Miela’. I loved it. It had this delicate beading with a vintage flair, but the stiletto and fit of the dress were both very modern.

Fionnuala’s dress… I went to Memories Bridal Boutique in Temple Bar with my sister in a terrible mood not expecting to find anything. The woman there was so helpful, she listened to what I liked and didn’t like and picked out a selection of dresses for me. I fell in love with one straight away. It was a fitted lace dress with a sweetheart neckline and tulle straps. I absolutely loved it.

Ruth’s dress… My dress was a Sincerity Dress from The Bridal Outlet in Baldoyle. The girls out there were so helpful and quickly realised what style I was looking for and found me so many gorgeous options that I still don’t know how I made a choice.

Laura’s dress… My dress was from the designer Avenue Diagonal from Bridal by Seven in Newry. Dress shopping was by far one of my favourite things to do and I tried on some gorgeous and not-so-gorgeous dresses. It was so enjoyable having days out with my mam, my aunty and maid of honour to pick dresses. The day I got my dress, I had my mam, my now sister and mother-in-law with me which was very special. I didn’t want something too fitted and not too big either so the A-Line was perfect for me.

Laura’s dress… my dress was from The Bridal Corner in Glasnevin. The designer was Enzoani. Perfect in every way! I had a belt fitted to give it that little bit of extra wow. The day I tried it on, I had already been to another shop in which I thought I had found ‘the one’. I remember my bridesmaid Lisa asking if she should call The Bridal Corner to cancel the appointment but I said no because I would feel awful as we were due there within the next hour and I would regret it and wonder ‘what if’. Boy was I glad I went! I tried it on and got THAT feeling! I realised that I had only thought the other dress was the one because of everyone in the shop’s reaction rather than my own. It wasn’t until June that I saw the dress and tried it on again, and I loved it just as much as the first time!

Emily’s dress… my gown was a Stephanie Allin dress called Julia which I got in Myrtle Ivory in Dublin. I saw the dress and instantly I knew I wanted to try it on, once I did I knew there wasn’t going to be another other dress. One thing I wanted was that the dress would ‘transform’ in some way. To achieve this, I wore a Stephanie Allin ‘Tilly’ shrug during the ceremony and reception dinner and then just before the first dance I removed the shrug and wore the dress alone. One of the best aspects of the dress was that it had pockets… so I could carry my lipstick with me for touch ups!

Melissa’s dress… my dress took forever to find! 6 months of trying on dresses, I tried on about 50 dresses, and almost gave up! But I kept coming back to this one image by Grace Loves Lace, a bohemian Australian brand. Nothing compared over here. Eventually my amazing maid of honour found a similar one online in the Love Marley collection by Watters… it was called Penelope. I fell in love with the images and as soon as I saw it for real, I knew it was the one. It was soft, floaty, light, girly, sheer tulle and lace with a cappuccino slip and bohemian feel. My mother-in-law reminds me that 50 dresses later, I bought one that was almost identical to the very first one I tried on, yet so much more perfect for my style… (it was also by Watters and cost £1700 more!)
