2015's Most Magnificent Mermaid Style Wedding Dresses

Mermaid style (also known as fishtail, fit and flare or trumpet style) wedding dresses are some of the most sought after gowns on the market. A typical mermaid style is a strapless corset top finished at the waist, the skirt is tight to just below the knee before bursting into a fishtail finish. It’s not hard to understand why brides gravitate towards a fab fit and flare – they’re sexy, feminine, elegant and of course have that extra va va voom everyone wants in a wedding dress. A mermaid silhouette is the preferred shape of red carpet gown for celebs such as Megan Fox, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Dita von Teese, because it clings to curves and accentuates a fabulous feminine shape, they’re truly red carpet ready.

If you’ve already begun wedding dress shopping we’ve no doubt you would have been super excited about seeing what this silhouette can do for your shape. A mermaid style works best on tall women but if you’re a petite lady, the trick with a mermaid style is to make sure you add height so that you’re not completely cut off below the knee. Heels are a great way to do this (practise practise!) as is a high bun upstyle in the hair. Accessorise with a pair of sparkling drop earrings and add a glittering belt to highlight your waist even better!

They’re not necessarily the most comfortable of gowns to be sewn into for 12 hours, so it’s imperative that if you go for this style you get it professionally and perfectly fitted to your shape (maybe with a little room for dinner added in!)
