5 Awesome Australian Bridal Designers to Watch in 2017

Fashion & Jewellery

We’ve covered Ireland, the UK, France and Israel and now we’re flying even further afield to find out who’s who in Aussie bridal for 2017. Australian bridal designers are some of the most prominent in the wedding industry at the moment, and if you’re a fan of the elegant, romantic and heavily embellished you’ve probably already come across one or two. The Aussie couturier who has made the biggest impact lately is probably Anna Campbell, whose designs – with their glistening hand-beading, opulently embellished backs and dripping diamonds and pearly details – are as photography-friendly as they come, giving them high priority on the Pinterests and Instas of the world.

This year we’re looking at the more pared-back designs from others on the continent, with some you may already be familiar with (Bo + Luca being a favourite of boho-loving bridal blogs everywhere) and some we can’t wait to get more acquainted with ourselves.

Australian

Bo + Luca

Designer Shannon Pittman brings her passion for travel and love of all things romantic and bohemian to Bo + Luca, a brand with nostalgia and luxe 70s-inspired aesthetics at its heart. Bo + Luca gowns are designed and hand-cut in Australia, created with soft, light fabrics that allow for a natural, feminine, comfortable silhouette. Woven metallic threads, sequins and crystals then add a distinctive edge to cuffs, bodices and waistbands.

One Day Bridal

If it’s out-and-out wow you’re looking for in a wedding dress, One Day Bridal has it in spades. Sexy, feminine, fashion-forward, luxurious gowns are the mainstay of designer Kyha, who created the brand when she struggled to find ‘the one’ for her own wedding and wanted to provide her own take on bridal for other women with similar tastes. Silhouettes vary from form-fitting sheaths to soft and floaty A-lines but always add some extra drama through full trains, billowing sleeves, deep V-necks and barely-there-backs.

Suzanne Harward

One of the most exciting Aussie designers for us this year has to be the supreme Suzanne Harward, whose luxurious lace gowns are the epitome of modern day princess. Long sleeves, high necklines and spectacular overlays are the standout features of Suzanne Harward’s stunning 2017 collection, where conservative glamour is the order of the day. A hint of folklore is present throughout the collection, with pretty puffed sleeves and ruffle collars making a real statement and adding something truly unique to modern bridal wear.

Georgia Young

Aussie designer Georgia Young creates couture gowns for brides looking for something completely unique for their Big Day. Gravity, the 2017 collection, however is a move back to ‘vibrant simplicity’, where simple yet striking silhouettes are made the feature of every gown through the use of luxurious fabrics and a light hand on embellishments. Designed and handmade in Melbourne, Georgia Young Couture gowns are known as “bridal couture for the fashion conscious bride”.

Elvi Design

The soft, romantic gowns of Perth-based bridal label Elvi Design are an absolute dream, and the perfect balance between elegant and sexy. Luxurious laces and sensual silks abound and in their newest collection, Emergence, these fabrics are used in innovative ways to create dresses that allow for a series of different looks. From detachable overlay skirts to removable lace beaded tops, these gowns are ideal for brides looking for two looks in one on their Big Day. We love Elvi’s beautiful accessories, which will no doubt have them on lots of brides’ radars for 2017.
