8 Sweet Little Extras Your Wedding Guests Will Love

Cakes, Planning & Advice

We’ve a sweet tooth here in weddingsonline – it’s not just wedding cakes we’re partial to, we love all the fabulous edible trends making their mark on the wedding world. And there are lots of them! Whether it’s a substitute for dessert, something they can take home as a favour to enjoy the day after or something to tuck in to in the early hours after a bit of dancing, these 8 sweet ideas are sure to impress your wedding guests.

Donut Station

Donuts are a micro trend that have been creeping in to state side weddings over the past few years but we think it’s high time they started popping up here in the Emerald Isle too! Not only are they seriously delicious but a tower of these fried cuties would make one seriously adorable and alternative wedding cake in an array of frosted flavours. Or if you don’t fancy forgoing your shot at an elegant and traditional wedding cake, you could serve them at midnight as a wee pick me up after all the dance floor antics with milk for spring or summer celebrations, or team them with steaming hot cups of tea and coffee for added cosiness if you’re having a wintry bash.

Ice Cream Vans

We may be in our 30s but that familiar ice cream jingle still gets us excited and rummaging in our pockets for some change! Nothing beats a Mr Whippy on a warm summer’s day (or even a chilly day at that) and we bet your guests will only be delighted to see one of the vintage vans pull up at the kerb side after the church or ceremony, or as an after dinner treat later in the evening. There are several great companies offering this service in Ireland – Rockfield Ice Cream have a fleet of vintage styled vans, carts and bicycles that operate throughout Ireland, Smith’s Ice Cream Vans also have a fleet of vans available nationwide for those looking to treat their guests to 99s while Adare Farm have a picturesque cart where your guests can tuck in to cones, wafers or a bowl of one of 6 ice-cream flavours.

Crepe Bar

If you’re after a tasty and comforting dessert alternative, and you’ve always had a soft spot for Pankcake Tuesday, why not treat your guests to this amazing dessert idea. We love the idea of setting up a crepe bar with a stack of pancakes and lots of yummy toppings – guests can drizzle chocolate on their crepe, add a dollop of cream, a dash of sugar or lemon, or heap an array of tasty fruits if they so please – the great thing about a bar is that they get to pick and choose what they feel like.

Candy Floss Carts & Ferrero Rocher Trees

We are seriously taken with this cute candy floss cart available to hire from Candylady (but if you’re more of a savoury guy or gal, fear not they have an equally cool popcorn cart available for hire as well – check it out here). We think this pretty pink cart would be right at home at a fun fair or carnival themed wedding but you don’t have to be having a theme to include it in your Big Day, guests young and old alike will love the idea of nibbling on a stick of this sugary pink treat. Or if you’re a sucker for Ferrero Rocher’s like us, these adorable candy trees (they also have heart shaped stands filled with these yummy sweeties) would be a gorgeous treat to greet your guests when they arrive at your reception. We think they’d look pretty good in our kitchen too.

Dessert Table

Dessert tables are tipped to be a big trend for 2015 weddings having enjoyed a roaring success in the States over the past few years. Of course we’re not surprised, a table full of the sweetest treats is sure to be popular and it means guests can sample an array of goodies. You can fill your table with whatever sweet stuff tickles your fancy from your mam’s famous home-baked apple pie, to your favourite cupcakes, macarons and other mini cakes you think will go down well. You can even get family and friends to pitch in and give a hand filling the table too if you like by organising a bit of a bake-off.

DIY Summer Treats

If you’re after some cute DIY treats to wow your guests with, you can whip up your very own frozen yoghurt bar. Leave mason jars or tubs out for guests, tubs of frozen-yoghurt and a mix of gorgeous toppings from jellies to berries. If frozen yoghurt isn’t your bag, you can substitute it for the likes of cupcakes and let your guests add sprinkles, cherries, chocolate chips, smarties and anything else you fancy a spoon of on top. Or if you like your ice pops, clear the freezer and make some berry popsicles for guests to enjoy on a summer’s afternoon after some champers and canapés.
