Bride: Paula Rose, EHSQ Advisor, Groom: Philip Marshall, Production Engineer
Length of engagement: 23 months
Wedding date: 6th August 2011
When we first laid eyes on Paula and Philip’s wedding it was like looking at the pictures in a book of fairytales. The colours, the photography, Paula’s amazing dress, her birdcage veil (which Paula planned the whole day around) and a bird theme to top it all off really added to the air of blissful romance!
They both agree that their favourite part of the day was when they exchanged of vows in Rockwell College, where Paula grew up and her father taught. Their other most memorable moment was their conga line, which Phil from Give us a Goo Photography managed to capture from each and every angle!
We met… I was interviewed by Phil for a position working for him. Although I was offered a job at the company, it was not working for Phil as he didn’t think I was a suitable candidate…
First impressions of Philip…Very well mannered but incredibly sarcastic but I took a shine to him immediately!
Philip’s first impressions of you… I really liked Paula. I thought she was a lovely girl with an infectious laugh and that she was very short.
Our proposal… We went on holiday to Borneo, with a few days before in Singapore. Phil had planned on proposing at Heathrow, but I spent the whole time before the flight on the phone to my mum and friend! He ended up carrying the ring around Singapore for three days, hoping for an opportunity to propose. Finally on our final evening in Singapore, during a romantic walk, he proposed on a bridge over the river.
Our bridesmaids…Our BMs were my best school friend Kate, my university friends, Claire and Victoria and Phil’s sister Elizabeth.
Our groomsmen…Our best man was Phil’s school friend Rick, our ushers were also school friends, Rob and Adam and my brother Rónán
Our favourite part of the wedding… Exchanging our vows and the conga which formed during the meal (thanks to the singing chef), resulting in all our friends and family making a beeline for the top table and ‘hi-fiving’ us!
Our ceremony… The ceremony was really moving. It was held in Rockwell College, where I grew up and her father taught. The music was also provided by my music teacher from secondary school so it all felt very personal.
My dress… It was full length lace with delicate beading all over it.
Our favourite wedding picture by Give us a Goo Photo… I love all of them but especially the one where we’re coming out of the church under an umbrella and everyone’s throwing confetti at us.
Our wedding theme/ colours… We had a bird theme on all our stationery, a wishing tree and birdcages filled with flowers on the tables. The bridesmaids wore sage green dresses and our flowers were pink and white roses! When we started planning the wedding, the only thing I knew was that I wanted to wear a birdcage veil! I kind of planned everything around that. Also, I think sage green is a beautiful summer colour for dresses.
We chose our venue because… it had a relaxed feel, beautiful gardens and cosy rooms and we had the run of the house for the day! Also, the food was amazing and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They made us feel like we were at home.
Our song for the first dance… ‘A kiss to build a dream on’ by Louis Armstrong
My advice for other brides… Something may go wrong over which you have little control (we got stuck in a lift with a priest and the photographer!) but try to keep a sense of humour. It all adds to the memories of the day!
