Kalla and Darren met at Kalla’s mum’s pub. Darren started working there on weekends when he was in college. They struck up a friendship and it all grew from there.

Kalla booked a night away 8 months after their daughter Vayda was born. This was their first night away together and because Kalla booked it, she didn’t expect anything like a proposal! “We arrived at the Farnham Estate and I just wanted to hit the spa and relax. But Darren kept saying he wanted to go for a walk. It wasn’t the nicest day so I reluctantly gave in. Halfway around the forest he said “I must show you this picture on my phone” he handed me the phone and there was our daughter wearing a onesie that said “Mammy will you marry Daddy?”. I was in complete shock. He was down on one knee with the most amazing ring, which he picked himself! I’m really into jewellery so I was extra impressed by that.”

Kalla’s wedding dress was from Belladonna Bridal in Galway. She says that Tina at the store should take full responsibility for the dress. “It was all her and I utterly adored it.” Kalla’s dad is a hairdresser at Karlamber Hairdressers in Mullingar so she was well looked after. Her makeup was done by Lisa Murphy from Edgeworthstown!

Darren and his groomsmen all wore suits from Spirit in Longford. The lads at the store looked after them so well and they even ordered in items for Darren to try on.

“We used Spiritual Ceremonies to make our ceremony very unique and personal. We had all our close friends read stories and poems and incorporated some of our favourite songs. Kalla’s oldest friend sung her down the aisle to “She moves through the fair”. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Vayda, our daughter was the star of the show, she ran down the aisle shouting “Daddy, I found stones”.”

Kalla and Darren’s wedding was beautifully captured by Couple Photography. “My friend had used them and I loved the quirky style, not the normal posed stuff, something different. I spoke to a few over email. But Roz picked up the phone and had a conversation with me. I liked her laid-back style and her attitude to “Let’s just enjoy and have fun”. She ruled the roost on the day but in a very easy way. She made me pose, which I didn’t want to do, but I’m so glad now as the photos are so nice.”

They chose Moyvalley Hotel as their venue, and when asked why: “Have you seen it!? It’s everything we wanted; the gardens, the old house, the ceremony room. Actually, that’s what sold it, the separation of venues. A building for the ceremony and then onto the big house. It’s stunning!”

Their favourite part of the wedding day was the ceremony and dancing to their band!

“Chill out. Enjoy it and don’t worry about guests. If you enjoy it, they will too.”
