We met… on the 27th of June 2002 at the Meath County Hunt Ball in the Newgrange Hotel in Navan. We had gone with separate groups of friends and this is were the magic began…

Our proposal… was on the 17th of May 2013 at The Europe Hotel, Killarney. David surprised me with a weekend away and arranged for me to have some spa treatments so I was delighted. This turned out to be a ploy to keep me busy for the afternoon while he arranged everything. When I had finished in the spa, the therapist gave me an umbrella and said that David wasn’t feeling well and he had gone out for a walk. It was raining and I have to admit I did considered just going back up and waiting in our room for him but out I went.

As I walked down to the boat house, I could see David pacing up and down and then I also noticed that the bar man was walking towards me (he had been helping David light the hundreds of candles he had arranged)! I thought this was strange but kept walking. When I turned the corner, it was all lit up by candlelight and David was down on one knee. The setting of the lake and boat house across from the Kerry mountains was amazing. David said his few words and I cried! And then I actually said ‘of course’ and not ‘yes’ so this is an ongoing joke with us. We had some bubbly in the boat house and then moved on to the lobby where we enjoyed some more champagne and the planning began that night…… for the engagement party for the following weekend. We could never miss a chance to have a party!!!!!

His suit… was Hugo Boss from Louis Copeland. You can never go wrong when you go and see Louis for a coffee!!!!

Our ceremony… was in Corpus Christi Church, Ghasri, Gozo, Malta. Gozo is a very small island that has more churches than you can imagine. They are all so beautiful we found it very hard to choose but Ghasri and the village and villagers stood out to us. They are just fabulous people.

Our wedding theme/colours… we went for a relaxed and colourful theme. As I have worked in weddings for a number of years, I wanted to make the colours fun and exciting – just the way I feel about weddings every day.

We chose our wedding planner because… we had seen Mark & Mariella’s website (Dream Days Weddings Malta) and the fact that they come to Ireland to meet all the couples appealed to us. Once we met Mark & Mariella we knew they would be the right fit for us. As a wedding planner myself I felt sorry for them both having to deal with me but they were amazing and understood all our visions etc. Thank you both so much.

We chose our venue Ta’ Frenc Restaurant because… we didn’t want a hotel wedding and my cousins had been in Gozo before us on their honeymoon and they recommended we try Ta’ Frenc Restaurant for dinner. All I can say is Joseph and his team are amazing. The restaurant is outstanding. No words can describe the level of service and quality of food we received.

My favourite part of the wedding day… The whole day was truly amazing. I wish I could do it all again.

My piece of advice for other brides… the day goes by so fast so make sure to enjoy every minute of it. Also take the time to drag yourself and your husband away from everybody just for 5-10 minutes to chat to each other alone, to see how you both are getting on. It is a once in a lifetime experience that you will remember for ever more and have no regrets.
