A Dreamy Wedding With a Rustic Theme

“Initially we didn’t really have a theme but in the end, you could say it was slightly rustic. We made a lot of decor ourselves. Pallets with personalised decals and flowers for our welcome to our wedding sign, a pallet and frames for our table plan and glass tea light holders and rustic wood for the table numbers.”

Couple: Aisling and Gary

Aisling and Gary met in 2011 at their local nightclub. Aisling had a boyfriend so they just chatted and she scored a few free drinks off him. They went their separate ways, and then just over a year later they met at the same nightclub. Gary turned around and said ‘Oh jeez, this one has a boyfriend anyway so I better not talk to ye’. Aisling let him know she was single, and that was it. He went in for the kiss and now 9 years later, they are married with four kids and a house together.

In February 2019 we went to the Lyrath Hotel in Kilkenny for Valentine’s Day. We popped into the Mc Donagh Junction Shopping Centre. Gary stopped outside fields jewellers and says ‘Sure will we pick a ring?’ I just laughed and said you can’t say that unless you mean it. He called a member of staff and said can we look at engagement rings. So we went in and choose it together. He rang my mam to say we are in a shop and can he propose. Gary had told the hotel so there was champagne for us back in the room and they had a ‘congratulations’ dessert for me after dinner.”

Aisling wore an enchanting Mon Cheri dress that she got from Virginia Bridal in Limerick. It was a crepe style fit and flare with lace detail and buttoned-up illusion back. It wasn’t the style she thought she’d go for but her mam asked her to try it on and she just loved it. So it’s definitely worth trying on something outside your comfort zone.
Gary wore a suit by Benetti from Connolly Menswear in Clonmel. It had navy blue pants, navy waistcoat and navy and light grey jacket and a light grey tie.

The bridesmaids wore dresses from JJs house in a cinnamon rose colour. They were beautiful and super quality. One of the bridesmaids was 38 weeks pregnant and her dress was also JJs house and it was perfect and comfortable.
The groomsmen matched Gary with navy blue suits and a grey tie.

“We had our ceremony in the Greenway Manor Hotel in Waterford and went with Spiritual Ceremonies Ireland to do our ceremony. Janette Wade was our celebrant and she was brilliant. We wanted our wedding to be as much about our 4 kids as it was about us and so wanted to include them as much as possible. Janette gave us loads of ideas with this and helped us plan the perfect, most personal marriage. We had a candle lighting ceremony and both our mothers lit a candle, our 4 kids lit a personalised candle each and we lit our unity candle. All our candles were by Beautiful Creations Ireland. We also had a handfasting ceremony which was so special. To include the children we presented them with a little gift so they have a keepsake from the day. We had music throughout the ceremony by Mary O Neill. Her voice and her talent on the harp are just gorgeous.”

“Our venue the Greenway Manor Hotel in Waterford is just divine. The minute we arrived there to view the hotel in 2020 we loved it. The driveway up to the hotel, the gardens and the exterior of the front of the hotel is just gorgeous. As it’s a manor house it has some old features even though it’s recently renovated. It’s so family-friendly and has a lovely playground for the children too. We had 8 kids attending the wedding we knew we had somewhere safe and secure where the kids could wander around and have fun during the day. It was perfect for us.”

“Our photographer, Alex, is based in Galway. I had followed a lot of photographers on Instagram while I was researching suppliers for our wedding and I just loved his work. I spoke with Alex and met 2 other photographers but I immediately got a great vibe from Alex and he understood the vibe we wanted and how important family shots and shots of the kids were. He was excellent on the day and our pictures are stunning.”

Due to Covid 19 restrictions and everyone’s views on guidelines, they had to cancel some of their entertainment.
“Thankfully though we were allowed a band and that was amazing. We had A Few Good Men perform for 2 hours and it was so special to have live music and see all our family and friends enjoy themselves bopping along to some music. As wedding favours we did scratch cards, Mr and Mrs sweets and personalised scented hand sanitizers for each guest. We did up little activity bags for the kids to keep them all entertained.”

Favourite memories included having my little girl with me all morning getting ready and seeing her enjoy her ‘girlie’ time. I will also never forget entering the ceremony room and my 3 boys shouting ‘mammy mammy’ and running towards me for a hug and then of course seeing Gary teary-eyed at the top of the aisle and having the first dance with him. Gary’s favourite memories are getting ready with our 3 boys and having quality time with them and seeing me walk up the aisle.”

“Don’t stress about the little things, keep it simple. Enjoy the lead-up and soak up all the memories and fun times on the day.”
