Áine and Martin met at Electric Picnic. Martin says, "An angel called Áine descended from heaven and sat beside me in the woodland."
They've travelled the world together, from Australia to Las Vegas, but they are home birds at heart! Martin shares their proposal story: "On the 11:11 on November 11th (being believers in symmetry). Áine's home town is nestled in the foothills of Wicklow in Brusselstown overlooking Keadeen and Luglacoille. I suggested a walk, and we meditated at the top of the hill. Then when Áine opened her eyes, I was on one knee with my mum's engagement ring in my hand."
Áine designed her own dress and made the accompanying cape. The dress is a-line, short front with slight train and lace detail bodess. The cape was made from her sister's veil.
Martin went for a blue three piece suit with brown trousers and shoes.Their jewellery was by Johan, New York - the rings have a fragment of dinosaurs bone and a fragment of asteroid in the bands.
They had one bridesmaids (Áine's sister) and one flower girl (their daughter) who wore dusty pink. The groomsmen, best man and page boy (their three songs) wore blue three piece suits.
Áine and Martin worked together with their spiritual healer and guide, Grainne, to create a personalised ceremony. They wanted to focus to be on the life they have built together! They got legally married in Las Vegas 5 years ago, so this symbolic ceremony was a joining of family and friends, to celebrate their union with their nearest and dearest.
"We curated the ceremony around the elements, with the alter gifts, from our garden, being water the ever-changing flow, soil reminding us to stay grounded, seeds paying homage to our ancestors and our innate potential, fruit reminding us of our abundance of love. We selected the songs specifically to take people on a journey of our spiritual love awakening. We had a passage from Khailb Gilbran the prophet, heartfelt speeches from Áine's sister and Martin's son. And a passage based on the The Lacota Natice American Indian Ethics from Martin's mam. The ceremony ended with a love poem in the native language, Gaeilge."
The celebrations took place at Trim Castle Hotel, overlooking Trim Castle. They hosted the ceremony on the rooftop terrace!
Martin says, "The venue was perfect, so picturesque. We had photos taken across the road on the grass in front of the castle."
The festivities were beautifully captured by DRene Plunkett Photography:
"Drene has a perfect balance of professionalism and friendlieness, putting everyone at ease and creating top quality, magical memories of our day. From the preparation to the ceremony and the first dance, Drene captured it all without even being noticed."
For wedding favours, they gave all the guests a fragrance of unity created by Áine, aligned with her organic skincare brand ethics (Calma Organics Ireland).
Their friends, The Duffy Brothers, entertained everybody with jazzy and soulful music in the afternoon and then classic wedding band tunes in the evening.
They share their favourite memory from the day:
"To see all of the time and effort we put into creating the day be as beautiful as we had hoped and to have all of our friends/relations really get a sense of the abundant love we have for each other as a family. Also seeing Áine walk down the aisle in the dress she designed and the angel cape started the tears flowing."
Martin and Áine share their best wedding planning advice for other couples getting married:
"Don't try and create perfection, just enjoy the process of creating a space where your friends and family can get a true sense of who you are as a couple. Also weddings don't have to follow a set pattern, have some fun with it. It's your day, make it be filled with your essence."
