A Romantic Teal and Cream Wedding

“We didn’t have a particular theme but our colours were teal (I’m obsessed with teal) and cream.”

Your Names: Stephanie Fleming & Conor Smith

Length of engagement: 17 months

Wedding Date: 2019-08-18

Wedding location: Palmerstown House Estate

Photographer: Bruno Rosa

Videographer: Limelight Wedding Films

How did you meet and get engaged?
We became friends through the Students’ Union in college and started going out about five years later. 6 years into our relationship Conor decided to propose and shortly after he won a voucher for Castle Leslie Estate, seemed like fate! We went for a stroll on the grounds and I suggested we go out and take some photos at the end of the jetty on the lake. I was just commenting on how romantic it was when Conor just burst out “Marry me!”. We bought the ring when we got back to Dublin the next day!

Describe your wedding:
We didn’t have a particular theme but our colours were teal (I’m obsessed with teal) and cream. The atmosphere we wanted was pretty much summarised as “Huge house party and everyone we love is there and wearing really nice clothes”. The imagery of the whole staircase ceremony entrance with my full train and my dad in his navy uniform was super dramatic which I loved but the atmosphere was very relaxed and fun!

Tell us about your bridal look:
My dress was a very romantic style. I am a sucker for a beautiful dress and I figured you don’t have many opportunities to go for something with a proper train, especially when you’re entering the ceremony coming down a grand staircase! Like eight weeks after we got engaged I went to Rice ‘n’ Roses in Cork where I’m from originally. I basically just went for the outing so my three big sisters and my teenage niece could be part of the dress hunt and it’s tough to get us all in the same place at the same time. I picked out a bunch of dresses and they suggested I try a particular Justin Alexander dress and I absolutely loved it. Then it turned out it was a sample so I would have to take it as was and pay cash. Which is how I ended up having my wedding dress in hand 14 months before my wedding! Talk about prepared! I left it in my parents’ house because I knew I wouldn’t be able to resist trying it on every weekend!

What did your bridesmaids wear?
I got beautiful dark teal dresses from Chi Chi London online with Debenhams. My only regret is I couldn’t find ones with pockets!

What was your ceremony like?
We had a ceremony in the Manor House with Niamh Davis, a humanist celebrant. It was a short ceremony and very personal. We hired Verge Trio, a string trio, for the ceremony and they were wonderful. We only had one traditional wedding reading, Love and Friendship by Emily Bronte but our other two readings were a monologue from The Good Place and an excerpt from a wedding scene from the Balance Arc of the Adventure Zone – a Dungeons & Dragons podcast! Niamh was a wonderful celebrant, our ceremony was very relaxed, very personal and, we hope, pretty funny. We walked back down the aisle together to a string rendition of Kiss From a Rose which is a long time karaoke favourite of the group of friends we’ve been part of since college.

Tell us about your wedding venue:
We got married and had our reception in the manor house at Palmerstown House Estate. The staff were wonderful, everyone from the wedding co-ordinator to the wait staff and housekeepers was warm and welcoming. We felt like the most important people in the world and they were all relaxed, friendly and hospitable which really contributed to the atmosphere of our wedding. I genuinely got the feeling the staff all really like working there which they should be so proud of! The food is absolutely delicious, after our menu tasting one of the things we were both looking forward to about the day the most was the dessert! It’s also an absolutely stunning venue! I can’t recommend the exclusive hire venue strongly enough. It felt like we were on a weekend away with all our favourite people, had a massive party and then everyone had a delicious hangover breakfast together the next day!

Tell us about your wedding video: I love our video so much. Initially I was dead against it but we only wanted video from ceremony to speeches and Gerry gave us a fantastic price and a simply beautiful video. I wouldn’t be without it!

What is your favourite memory from your wedding day?
The speeches. We’ve all been to weddings where there are one or two good speeches and the rest drag on a bit but we had six and they were all excellent, and hilarious! We’re definitely biased though so maybe don’t believe us…

Have you got any advice for other couples?
There are no rules. It’s your day, do what will make you happy. It’s odds on that if you’re happy your guests will be too. We had a day that was very unique to us and got a lot of puzzled looks from people about decisions we made in advance and afterwards the same people told us they loved it.
