A Secret Covid Wedding Without the Frills

Real Weddings

“We always wanted a quite simple wedding, for it to be about us and the kids, without all the fuss and frills. So after covid led us to postpone yet another wedding date we decided to just go ahead with us and the kids, in secret and it turned out we had the most perfect day. It was everything we wanted! It was so chill and relaxed the entire day.”

Couple: Shireen & Kevin

Shireen was on her work placement for college in 2008 in Spain and she met Kevin when he came out to visit friends. They got on immediately and soon realised they lived about 20 minutes apart in Ireland!

“I booked a night away for Kevin’s 30th. We were living in Winnipeg and my parents happened to be visiting, so we had built-in babysitters for the night. Our first night without kids in about 2 years! We had dinner in a rooftop restaurant that rotated and had views of the entire city. I was freezing and couldn’t believe the cheek of Kev not to offer me his jacket! It was only after when we were walking near one of our favourite parks and he proposed that I realized it was because he had the ring in the jacket the entire time.”

Shireen’s dress was Oleg Cassini. She wanted to make it a little more personalised, so her dressmaker, Adrianne Hill Designs made it into the dream dress! Because of Covid and choosing to elope and have no bridesmaids, Shireen ended up doing her own tan, hair and makeup.

“Thankfully Kevin took care of getting the boys ready cause I was flat out with the curler. Kevin also acted as chief bridesmaid and was in charge of letting up and down the fancy 5 button bustle that I’d had Adrianne add to the dress.
The boys suits were from Next, we had them from our original wedding date of July 2020, and just swapped them out for the next size up when we postponed! Because all the shops were closed, and buying a suit isn’t really something you can do online, Kevin ended up wearing a suit he already had, and we got him a matching waistcoat and tie in Next to match the kids!”

Shireen and Kevin fell in love the minute they saw Multyfarnham Abbey and knew that was the location for them! Then they came across a picture of it that Aoife from Sheefin flowers had worked on previously. They asked her to recreate it, she went above and beyond!

“Our ceremony was so personal to us, Fr Murray did an amazing job, and we are grateful for the memories we have! Darragh gave me away and Kevin was waiting at the altar with the other boys. Aodhan spent the ceremony playing with trains on the alter while Darragh and Cillian join in everything else with us! It was perfect for it to just be us 5!
Kathryn’s music was stunning, and at the end when Aodhan was having a meltdown, she broke into Baby Shark and Twinkle Twinkle to calm him down. You can’t ask for much more than that. It is one of our favorite memories, to have a family dance party to Baby Shark on the altar.”

“We were so excited during the planning process to have found Annebrook House Hotel. They are such a little family there, and did everything in their power for us to have a perfect day. When we first told Orla, the coordinator, that we wanted to go ahead with our original date, but just us 5, we thought she would think we were mad. She jumped on board and had the best idea for little extras for us! We had the entire hotel to ourselves, and the staff were amazing! They even set up a cinema room for us to watch movies with the kids after dinner, including sweets popcorn and wine!”

Originally we were having our friend from Winnipeg coming to photograph our wedding, but obviously that couldn’t happen with covid, so we were left with a very short time to find a photographer! We feel so lucky to have had Val (Waldemar Zukowski) shoot our wedding day! His style is just what we were looking for, and he was so great with the kids and open to any ideas we had!”

“I found Michael through weddingsonline and after speaking with him back and forth and seeing his work we knew he was the videographer we wanted to go with! We left most of the decision-making up to him and were blown away by the video. I’ve watched it about 100 times, and am in awe every time! He captured our day beautifully!”

We love the water, and live by the water so taking a stop at Lough Owel was important to us. I loved that moment of it just being the two of us out on the water, and even though was dress was getting soaked and the water was sloshing into my shoes I can still remember the giggles and how happy we were in that moment!”
