All You Need to Know About a Dream Honeymoon in the Seychelles

Honeymoon

If you’re looking for an idyllic honeymoon getaway, it doesn’t get much better than the Seychelles! With its spectacular white sandy beaches, lush green vegetation, swaying coconut trees and sun filled days, the Seychelles is every inch the tropical paradise (make sure to pack plenty of memory cards for the camera)…

The Weather & When to Go

With temperature at around 24° to 32°, you can expect gorgeous sunny days year round making it the perfect spot for sun-worshippers! Its tropical climate does mean it’s prone to rainfall but showers tend to last for only a few hours so you’ll be back on that sun-lounger before you know it! May to September is one of the driest periods while November to January is one of the wettest but worry not, there’s still plenty of sunshine to soak up before and after these showers.

How to get there

Utter perfection…

The Seychelles is one of those ‘pinch yourself – is this actually real’ locations and was the honeymoon destination of choice for Will and Kate when they tied the knot in 2011 so you’re in good company. Dotted across the Indian Ocean, the Seychelles is made up of more than 115 granitic and coral islands (the main island and capital city of the archipelago is Mahé) with stunning rock formations bursting above crystal clear waters, lush rainforests and a teaming marine life. With its tropical climate, couples can look forward to sun-filled days and balmy temperatures of between 24° to 32°.

There are three main islands – Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. They’re all as amazing as each other and boast stunning scenery and a warm welcome wherever you land. They’ve also got their fair share of spectacular powder white beaches and glistening turquoise waters including Anse Royale on Mahé, the intimate Anse Georgette on Praslin and La Digue’s gem – Anse Source D’Argent which was voted one of the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world (yes, in the world!!). They’re also home to some seriously luxurious resorts and 5-star eco-conscious hotels where honeymooners can completely indulge and toast this incredibly special period.

If you head to the Seychelles, you can look forward to spending your days basking in the sun, taking your pick of postcard-perfect beaches, exploring secluded coves, strolling the powder white sands with your new hubby or wife, eating the best cuisine and enjoying romantic beach-side suppers, drinking in fiery sunsets, snorkelling at your leisure and being truly pampered at indulgent spas, all in the most jaw-dropping surroundings.

Things to do

If you’re looking to take a break from beach life, there’s plenty of adventures to be had in the Seychelles. Couples looking for a thrill will love all the water sport activities on offer from water-skiing and jet-skiing (Beau Vallon in Mahé is the spot for this) to kayaking, surfing, parachute rides, sailing and paragliding. Or if you fancy taking in the incredible sea life and coral reefs beyond the sparkling turquoise waters, the Seychelles is one of the most exciting dive spots in the Indian Ocean (Mahé and Praslin in particular). You might even see hawksbill turtles!

If you’d rather take in some sights and culture, there’s plenty of that too. You can explore the Seychelles incredible archipelago and remote islands from the comfort of a catamaran, yacht or sail boat, try your hand at some rocking climbing and zip-lining on Mahé island (and be blown away by the forests incredible scenery while you’re at it), play a round of golf or browse eclectic markets and pick up beautiful souvenirs that will forever remind you of your travels – everything from baskets made from coconut fibres to local spices such as saffron and cinnamon.

A famous attraction on Praslin is the Vallée-de-Mai nature reserve, known as the ‘original Garden of Eden’ where you can explore the incredible rainforests and get a glimpse of insta-worthy waterfalls. The nature reserve is home to the native coco-de-mer – the largest nut in the world as well as the native Black Parrot and the Seychelles Bulbul. The Seychelles also has bird and turtles reserves and if you’re after a once-in a life time experience, you can even arrange to swim with whale sharks (they’re harmless plankton eaters so you’re in safe hands!)

Before You Go

A few things to note before you jet off to paradise…

Toiletries and Medicines: There are only few pharmacies available on the island so make sure to bring your own. And make sure to pack a flashlight, you’ll need one to find your way at night!

Travelling: To travel from Mahe to La Digue you can book a domestic flight from Mahé to Praslin through Air Seychelles, before taking a ferry service to La Digue. To get to other islands a boat will be required. Inland services include taxis as well as car rentals.
