I’m going for my first fitting of my dress in two weeks time. What should I bring with me? – Tara

Great question Tara! For your first fitting with a seamstress you’ll need the underwear and bra you’ll be wearing on your wedding day and your shoes. Try not to wear any fake tan and as little make-up as possible.

Exciting times, the dress is finally in! The answer depends on whether you are having your alterations done in-house, or by an independent seamstress. Either way, bring the shoes and underwear you intend to wear with the dress on the day. It’s is good to find out if these are returnable, as sometimes a heel height or a certain bra simply don’t work with the dress and there is no harm having a ‘plan B’. If you are having alterations in-house, the seamstress will pin where necessary so it is very important to have these items with you to avoid any delays. If you are having a fitting done by an independent seamstress, your shop assistant will advise on what type of alterations you may need doing before you see the seamstress. Usually these alterations are very minor and very much the norm, unless your measurements have dramatically changed since having them taken when ordering your gown. Your seamstress will arrange your next appointment which is usually when you get to take your dress home, but it is always good to allow time for that extra little tweaking if necessary.

Hi Tara, very exciting to be going for your first dress fitting! We would recommend that you bring the shoes you will be wearing on your wedding day, as well as the underwear, so that the dress can be altered to the correct length and you can see that your underwear is adequately concealed under the dress. All the best!
