We met… Our relationship was a very natural progression, we had been friends for years. Francis went to school with my best friend since baby infants so I had always known him. But the night it all started we had been to the fun fair with my best friend and his best friend who were dating and we had a great time, Francis won me a big teddy bear on one of the games. After all the excitement we all went home to watch a movie and that’s where we shared our first kiss on his parent’s couch. And the rest is history. After nearly four years of dating we decided to start a new adventure together and went to Australia where we have lived for the last five years together.

Our proposal… We were home in Ireland on holiday (as we live in Australia) and it was the day after his brother’s 21st and we were on the way back to visit some relatives in a place called Belderrig. On the way there is a look out point called Ceide Fields and it’s my favorite place in the world, we always pull in and take in the beautiful scenery when we drive past so this day was no different. So we were taking photos and selfies but then it started to rain so I bolted for the car but half way up the steps I hear Francis calling on me and I turned around and there he was on one knee, I ran back down the stairs and through tears of joy I said YES!

His suit… Francis wore a dark grey suit from Eddie Murphy’s menswear, an ivory patterned tie and dark brown shoes.

What our bridal party wore… the girls wore Alfred Angelo gowns in a dusky purple purchased from Simone’s of Sligo and the boys wore suits hired at Eddie Murphy’s menswear in Ballyhaunis, and had individual cuff links to reflect each of them.

My dress… My dress was an Allure Romance gown, I wanted something very bridal but comfortable to wear so I purchased from Lamelia Bridal Studio Sligo. It was the first shop I went to and Dawn was just so good at knowing what would suit me I didn’t need to look any further. I was very excited about my shoes, they were Badgley Mischka.

My favourite part of the wedding day… was the church, seeing all our friends and family all together it was so overwhelming, having my dad walk me up the aisle and seeing my husband-to-be, it was just perfect!

Our ceremony… was a traditional Catholic ceremony, we had two priests that were parish priests growing up so it was great to have them and they made the ceremony so personal. Our amazing flowers were done by Wedding Flowers by Ruth, she incorporated the wedding colours perfectly and filled the church with candles and and soft flowers. n the meetings leading up to the wedding, Ruth had got to know us and incorporated that Francis is a farmer in Australia into the flowers by putting straws of wheat into them, we were blown away, it was a perfect touch.

We chose our photographer because…
We chose our photographer after a lot of online research, what drew me to Couple Photography was their relaxed style of photography, rather then posed photos they captured the natural moments throughout the day and told the story naturally. An added bonus was that there is two of them so one was able to be in the bride’s house in the morning and the other went to the groom’s – as a bride I wanted to be able to see what the boys had got up to that morning!

Our honeymoon… For the first week we travelled around Ireland with the Australians and Americans that had come over for the wedding. We went to Inishbofin on the Aran Islands, Galway, Limerick, Cork and Dublin and then we flew to Miami and went on a seven night cruise to the Bahamas that we booked through Fly Away Travel in Ballina and they got us a great deal with Norwegian Cruise lines – it was amazing! Then we went to Colorado for a week touring around.

We chose our venue because… We loved the grandeur of Breaffy House Resort and the fabulous grounds that are on it. It has a beautiful outside area for everyone to sit out and enjoy the sun. The staff were amazing to deal with and they just made it so easy for me especially being an overseas bride.

My piece of advice for other brides… it seriously was the best day of my life and I think a lot of that was down to that fact I was so organised that come the day I was able to just relax and enjoy the day. And if something goes wrong, don’t let it ruin your day, just laugh it of and keep smiling. After my dad had walked me up the aisle, he was going back to his seat and accidentally stood on my veil and ripped it off my head, but it was hilarious and we all cracked up laughing, it broke the ice as I was so emotional saying goodbye to my dad.
