Celeb Style – 14 Fabulous Looks for Grooms

The Groom

While this afternoon’s article is for the lads looking for inspiration in terms of suits, we know a lot of the ladies out there will appreciate this too (to help style their man/brother/cousin of course)! The celebs know how to rock a suit and are on the ball in terms of trends (they do have a team of stylists after all), which is why they make for great inspiration on the suit front. While suits were often more of an afterthought in the past, fashion savvy, stylish gents have come in to their own when it comes to wedding attire.

There are plenty of suit options available for our discerning grooms on the hunt for a suit for the Big Day – if you’re not a tops and tails or tux kind of guy, fear not, there are lots of other dashing, modern options on offer with slimmer fits and exceptional tailoring and fabrics. Little details also play a big part in distinguishing one suit from the next from linings and buttons to contrasting lapels and stitching. For those that don’t fancy a standard black or grey suit (although if you do, you’ll be overwhelmed by all the styles and finishes available), there are also lots of other gorgeous hues gracing the suit world from blues and burgundies to tartans and tweeds. In short, the options are endless as the boys below demonstrate. Here’s 14 fabulous looks to inspire our soon-to-be grooms.

Boys in Blue

If there was a colour that was hot for boys in 2014 it has to be blue! The blue suit has reigned supreme in Hollywood and is a fun and upbeat choice for guys looking for a modern alternative to black or navy. Jamie Dornan, Robert Pattinson and Ryan Gosling are just some of the boys who have rocked a blue suit of late – these bad boys have been cropping up all over red carpets, aisles and shops with highstreet faves Reiss and  Zara offering a range of styles and most menswear and suit hire stores stock a dazzling array of this punchy hue.

Classic Black

Us ladies flock to black for many an occasion and same goes for the menfolk – a classy black suit can be a handy suit to have hanging in the wardrobe – it’s chic, timeless, flattering and is easy-peasy to wear with fabulous results (see above!) It’s also easily accessorised and will go with practically any colour. Whether you’re embarking on a glitzy black tie affair for your wedding with a Tuxedo and the works, or you want a pared back, tailored cut, there will be a black suit out there that will work for you (and you can be sure all formal wear shops will have an amazing array of black suits for guys looking to add a staple black suit to their closet).

Wool Suits

Tweeds and wool suits definitely had a moment this year in the suit department with these cool fabrics being an alternative, dapper choice for gents. With autumn and winter weddings on the horizon, there’s sure to be plenty of these fabrics making their way in to the bridal party too as grooms look for an elegant yet eclectic look for their wedding attire that is sure to keep them snug. If you like the look of James Franco and Darren Criss’s attire, you can find similar styles on the highstreet in the likes of Ted BakerReissZara and Topman. And the good news is heritage styles and tweeds such as Magee are stocked in a large range of menswear stores – browse our menswear suppliers here.

Bold Burgundies

Maroon, wine, burgundy – whatever name you want to call it, this rich and warm colour can be found in many menswear departments this season as this rich hue works beautifully for an autumn or winter wedding. If a full on burgundy jacket is a little too daring for your wardrobe to handle, you can sneak in accents of this luxurious shade through your accessories – think ties and bow-ties (there are some great finds in Reiss), pocket squares and even a pair of slick burgundy shoes (Zara have a gorgeous pair at the mo – check them out here, or if you’re looking for wedding shoes, be sure to check out our pick of some of the best styles in store right now here).

Gorgeous Grey

We’re a big fan of the grey suit and it is a brilliant choice for boys that want to seem dressed up but that don’t want their look to be overly formal. A grey suit looks fantastic and will suit virtually anyone as there are so many shades from lighter tones, to pinstripes and tweeds to charcoal. It too is easily accessorised and works with pops of ochre, blue and pink for a spring/summer wedding, and black, navy, purple and burgundies for an autumn/winter wedding. While we can’t see a huge race to the velvet suit section, a grey version worn with a slim black tie a la Ryan Gosling shows how this look can work.

In the Navy

Another big hit with grooms this year, the classic navy suit is going nowhere and again will be one that will be gracing many a wedding this autumn/winter. This warmer tone appeals to boys who wants a slick, stylish and classic look, that isn’t as stark as black. If you’re looking to make it extra sharp, Tom Hardy’s tuxedo style with the hint of black along the lapels has become an increasingly popular choice or if you’re after something a little less formal, play it down with a two-piece, skinny tie and brogues like James McAvoy.
