We met… On New Year’s Eve 2009 at The Saw Doctor’s concert at the TF Royal, Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

Our proposal… Brian proposed after treating me to a fabulous stay at Doonbeg Golf Resort in County Clare, complete with spa treatments and a gorgeous dinner. He proposed to me in our room after dinner. He had a Pandora promise ring as he knew I would want to choose my own ring.

My hair and make-up… My hair was done by the super talented Gemma Crossan of Hot Heads Salon in Ballymote and Riverstown. Make-up was done by the fabulous Margaret Gallagher of The Beauty Suite in Riverstown, Co. Sligo. Both ladies were very professional and listened to what I wanted not only for myself but also for my Mam and bridesmaids.

My dress… My dress was a Ronald Joyce and I loved it. It was the first dress that I had tried on and I didn’t want to take it off. I bought it from Graceful Occasions, in Ballygawley, Sligo. I’d definitely recommend Grainne, she couldn’t do enough for me. Brilliant service.

Our ceremony… Was held at Sooey Church in Sligo. Our celebrant, Fr. Costello had baptised both myself (Patricia!) and our daughter Fiadh, so that was special.

Our wedding theme/colours… No theme as such but we wanted to give a small nod to the fact that it was Halloween. Our colours were navy and grey. We used these colours throughout the reception.

What our bridal party wore… The bridesmaids wore Eliza and Ethan multi-wrap dresses in Midnight Blue, they were beautiful dresses and very comfortable. The groomsmen wore suits by Skopes from Eddie Murphy’s Menswear in Mayo, these were navy blue.

We chose our photographer because… Our photographer was Ros Byrne of Couple Photography. We had seen her blog and we liked her style of photography. We knew as soon as we met her that we wanted her to be our photographer. We are delighted with the results.

We chose our venue because… From the moment we first set foot inside the door we felt at ease. Kim, the wedding manager at Castle Dargan was amazing, nothing seemed like too much trouble for her. The location is absolutely stunning too so that definitely helped with our decision.

Our honeymoon… We spent two weeks in the USA. We went to San Francisco for a few days, then on to Napa Valley, Yosemite National Park and Monterey Bay in California and spent our last few days in New York. We had a blast. We booked it all through McDermott Travel in Westport, Co. Mayo. They couldn’t have done more for us, we highly recommend them.

Our menu… The food at Castle Dargan is gorgeous so this made our decision quite difficult! In the end we went for a medley of duck and salmon for starter. Smoked chicken and sweet corn soup (all our guests loved it). Mains was a choice of beef or salmon. Dessert was also a medley. Everyone enjoyed the food and there was plenty of it for everyone. The wine selection was included with the meal. We chose a Chilean white and a French red.

My favourite part of the wedding day… Walking up the aisle and seeing Brian at the top. What an amazing feeling. Brian’s was finally being able to relax after his speech!

My piece of advice for other brides… Enjoy every second of the day because it goes by in a flash. Also take a few minutes out with your new husband on the day. Find somewhere quiet if that’s possible and maybe have a drink together.
