Creative Ways to Follow Wedding Customs During Covid

Covid-19

Weddings look a little different now, because we are all trying our best to remain socially distant and protect one another in the process. Being responsible doesn’t mean you have to avoid all the fab wedding traditions. In fact, there are some creative ways that you can still follow wedding customs during Covid. We’re thinking of unique ways to do a cake cutting, fun honeymoon alternatives, and even a special way to toss the bouquet.

Confetti

The beautiful moment when your guests shower you with confetti, petals, glitter or rice is one of our favourite wedding photo moments! The tricky part is that it’s not totally Covid-friendly. Putting your hand into a basket of petals, that other people have been touching, is a thing of the past.

Our suggestion: If you’d like to have your special confetti moment, make sure everything is prepackaged so that guests don’t have to touch the contents. Think confetti cones or individually wrapped parcels of confetti.

Bouquet toss

For those who still want to do a lovely bouquet toss, consider the fact that your friends will be huddled in a group. That’s just an unnecessary amount of interaction that wouldn’t be considered socially distanced.

Our suggestion: Select a loved one and hand them a pre-made bouquet that’s just for them. This is a special way to honour your mam, gran or other loved one who means a lot to you.

Cake cutting

There is nothing overtly wrong with cutting the cake, but the problem is that it often involves lots of huddling and gathering to get the perfect photo. In particular, it involves huddling around a cake which is meant to be eaten afterwards.

Our suggestion: Cut a display cake and have the actual cake cut safely in the kitchen. Ask your guests to watch this lovely cake cutting moment from their own table.

Hen and stag do

You might not be able to have all your girls in the same room as you for a big hen do, but that’s ok! There are lots of fun things you can do to celebrate instead.

Our suggestion: Ask your bridesmaids to host a virtual hen party. Pretty decor, virtual games, cocktails and even a dance party.

Honeymoon

There’s no doubt that travel restrictions have thrown a spanner in the works. Going on your dream honeymoon together is going to look a little bit different, but it’s not impossible!

Our suggestion: Plan a ‘homeymoon’ instead. It’s like a staycation, but for newlyweds.
