“I didn’t even know exactly where we’d be married until I met my husband at the location.”
The couple: Gabriel L Buehrig & Kerstyn M Buehrig (Larash)
Length of engagement: 6 months | Wedding date: June 16, 2015
Wedding location: Doolin, Ireland
Photographer: Shane O’Neill, Aspect Photography
We met… once as young teenagers through my (Kerstyn’s) brother David, and reconnected via Facebook in 2009.
Our proposal… In 2010, Kerstyn was volunteering in Romania. I (Gabe) sent her a stuffed animal moose in a care package consisting of her favourite snacks she missed from home. Due to her suitcase being too full, she returned home to St. Louis, Missouri without him. Knowing what that little moose meant to Kerstyn, I wrote a children’s book depicting his adventures home to her. The last page of the book expresses my love and desire to spend my life with her. On Christmas Eve 2014, at one of her favourite places in our hometown, I gave Kerstyn The Adventures of Captain Moose. When she had finished reading it, I got down on one knee and the rest is history.
Our wedding theme/colours… Classic – Ivory and Grey.
My dress… was by Maggie Sottero.
My hair and make-up… My hair was done by a lovely girl at the award winning Altamoda Hair. My make-up was done at the award winning Body Treats in Co. Clare.
Our wedding day… With the blessings of our families and friends we eloped to Ireland; although we missed our families and friends it was truly without a doubt the happiest day of our lives… so far.
Our ceremony… Was on the pier in Doolin, Co. Clare, Ireland.
My favourite part of the wedding day… The whole day was truly magical, but my very favourite part was exchanging our vows. We wrote most of them ourselves and his were especially vulnerable, honest, and romantic.
We chose our photographer because… The work displayed on Shane’s website (Shane O’Neill, Aspect Photography) was outstanding and the style we desired. His multiple awards were an added bonus!
Our honeymoon… was the trip of a lifetime. We toured Ireland and visited Santorini, Crete, and Athens, Greece.
My piece of advice for other brides… Be more excited for your marriage than the wedding day. Also, try not to sweat the small stuff. I had no hair or make-up trial, didn’t see my flowers or cake before the day, and didn’t even know exactly where we’d be married until I met my husband at the location. With all of those unknowns it was still perfect.
