‘Conor and I met in a French class in secondary school.  We’ve been together since our 6th Year, growing up alongside one another from teenagers into the couple we are today. Having that shared history—from school exams to our wedding day—made the whole celebration feel like a true milestone for our entire community of friends who have watched us grow.

‘Conor proposed on New Years Eve at Trim Castle. It was the perfect, crisp winter morning. It was incredibly romantic and private, but because it was New Year’s, we were able to transition straight into a massive celebration. We had a party afterward with all our friends and family; it turned the best day of our lives into an unforgettable start to a new year.’

During the busy wedding morning prep Katie and her parents headed outside with photographer, Ros for some bridal portraits. Noticing his daughter was wearing no shoes, Katie’s dad joked she was having cold feet! A great memorable photo now marks the special moment.

Katie and Conor chose a palette of deep burgundy, red, and white to lean into the magic of the Christmas season. These are also Conor’s hurling club colours.

‘Conor loved that they were able to represent his club and his passion for the sport in such a sophisticated way. We incorporated these tones everywhere—from the rich burgundy ribbons on our stationery to a custom-painted letter box for our guest cards. Our florist used lush red blooms and snowy white accents to bring a sense of life and vibrancy to the historic rooms of our venue. We loved these colours because they felt cozy against the winter chill and looked incredibly sophisticated in the candlelight of Rathsallagh House.’

Katie  wanted her wedding dress to feel timeless and with a wow factor for the winter setting, she found just that in Love Ellie. ‘The experience at the boutique was wonderful, and the dress I chose felt like the perfect centerpiece for the day—elegant, comfortable enough to dance in, and exactly what I had envisioned.’

‘Having my bridal prep done was one of the most special parts of the morning for me. My hair was done by Emma Jane, who has been my hairdresser for years. Having that existing relationship meant she knew exactly what suited me, and it felt like having a friend there rather than just a vendor. For makeup, I had Hannah Noone, who is a close family friend. Hannah has been doing my facials for years—which was the best possible wedding prep—so my skin felt incredible. It made the getting ready process so calm and personal.’

We held our ceremony at my local church, Allen Church. I’ve always been in love with the building’s architecture—it’s so grand yet intimate. To make it even more special, we had both my Parish Priest and Conor’s Parish Priest join forces to perform the ceremony together. It was a beautiful way to officially merge our two families and our respective parishes.’

Feedback on our venue: Rathsallagh House won us over immediately. We loved the “old country house” aesthetic; it felt secluded, private, and like our own little world for the day. The crackling fires and historic charm made it the ultimate setting for a December wedding. It also held a very special place in our hearts because Conor’s mam is from the local area, which made the location feel even more meaningful and grounded in family history.

Feedback on our photographer:

We cannot thank Ros and Anna enough for the incredible job they did capturing our wedding day. Having two photographers was easily one of the best decisions we made because it allowed them to cover the morning preparations at both of our houses simultaneously, ensuring not a single moment was missed before we even reached the church. They were also absolutely wonderful with our dogs, which meant the world to us; they were so patient and skilled at getting the pups to cooperate, ensuring our four-legged family members were a part of the memories too.

From the ceremony to our reception at Rathsallagh House, they were a total joy to have around. Rathsallagh is such a beautiful venue and they knew exactly how to use the setting to get the best shots while remaining completely unobtrusive. They made us and our guests feel natural and at ease in front of the camera all day. We were especially grateful that they stayed right through to the dancing, as seeing the energy of the party captured so perfectly was the icing on the cake. Ros and Anna are a professional, talented, and lovely team who truly went above and beyond from start to finish. We couldn’t be happier with our experience and would recommend them to any couple in a heartbeat.

Favourite memory: Simply dancing the night away with everyone we love. I also adored our wedding cake; we kept the design simple and elegant, but topped it with my Mum and Dad’s original cake topper. It was a sentimental “something old” that meant the world to me and my parents.

Advice for other couples: Lean on people you trust! Using vendors like Emma Jane and Hannah Noone—who I had long-standing relationships with—made the morning of the wedding so relaxed. When you’re surrounded by people who genuinely care about you and have known you for years, the stress just melts away.

To surprise and entertain their guests, Katie and Conor had an interesting visitor show up to their evening reception – the Grinch!

‘It was the ultimate festive surprise that caught everyone off guard and turned the dance floor into a scene straight out of a movie.’
