If you said yes to a very important question over the festive period, congratulations and welcome to a very exciting journey! First comes the engagement and all the excitement and then enters, the wedding budget! Not quite as romantic but a very important part of getting married.

Today we’ve put together a quick crash course in wedding budgeting, the basics you shouldn’t overlook…

1. Set a budget

Yes, this may seem like a silly step to mention, but it is the most important and one some couples forget. Your wedding budget will dictate everything on your day, the venue, what you wear, eat and who you dance along to, and with. Setting a budget is crucial to achieving the day you are imagining so do your future self a huge favour and set one.

2. Keep it simple and separate

Some couples think just because they don’t budget the rest of their life, they can’t budget their wedding day – believe us, you can! Keep it simple, if a spreadsheet isn’t for you just buy a new notebook and keep all records manually. Having a separate wedding account is a great idea to keep track of what you’ve been spending.

3. Be accountable and track everything

No one is more accountable than yourself, we urge you to take your wedding budget seriously and know how much you have to spend on every area. If you overspend on one element, make up for it in another area. Keeping track of all transactions, booking fees and upcoming costs will help you in the long run.

4. Keep communication open

Always keep your partner in on the budget action, honesty and good communication are vital elements of a successful marriage so begin as you mean to go on! No hiding huge purchases, please!

5. Remember to factor in hidden costs
