Meet Meadhbh and Eoin! Married within a year of getting engaged, our fun-loving couple brought that to their intimate Dublin City centre wedding last summer.

‘Eoin and I met at my sister’s going away night out in Workman’s. We’d never met before, despite hanging out with the same people for years. Without realising until we spoke afterwards, we both immediately spotted the other and spent the night trying to chat, but for some reason things kept getting in the way. We finally got talking with the help of Eoin’s good friend (also my sister’s good friend) and with the blessing of my sister. We stayed out all night, even after everyone else went home and had so much fun together. From that point on, we were hooked.

The couple got engaged at a very special spot in Galway;
‘Our engagement was low-key, intimate, personal and perfect. Eoin proposed at a natural harbour near his family home in Roundstone, Galway; a place very special to Eoin and his family and since the start of our relationship, special to us. Eoin’s late mother’s ashes were scattered at the harbour, and he wanted her at our engagement, as she wouldn’t be at the wedding. It was a beautiful sunny day. Eoin brought champagne to the harbour and we toasted, laughed and chatted about our future plans.’

They soon got on with planning their wedding just short of a year after getting engaged, and wanted it to be fun, low-key, rustic, non-traditional, cool and easy-going.
‘We wanted to get married in Dublin City and knew the owner of Medley. Eoin used to work there and we’d been at events they did the catering at. We knew the food was incredible and thought their central, cool and alternative vibe would suit us perfectly and wow, it really did. They were incredible to plan with – so down to earth, so flexible, so calm. You could tell their priority was us having the perfect day and they never seemed phased by anything.
Medley is in the Old Irish Times Building and is in a perfect part of town; right in the middle of it beside Trinity but on a side street that’s quiet. It has a mezzanine upstairs where we had the ceremony and dinner and a space downstairs where we had the drinks reception, speeches and dancing. It’s a really nice size, versatile and looks great. I liked that it was a venue space and not a hotel.’

Meadhbh wore a two-piece off the rack she found in Folkster when picking up her mums outfit!
‘I had two dresses. I never planned on this, but fell in love with an off the rack two-piece when I was collecting my dress from Folkster in Kilkenny. Both outfits were ivory. I chose deep purple as an accent colour, and so had purple shoes, purple and silver earrings, a pearl necklace with a purple pendant, purple nails and a blue, purple and white bouquet. The star of the show was my vintage style silver headpiece. I like being different and standout, and this helped me achieve that. I changed into my second dress before me and Eoin’s photoshoot. This dress was shorter and cooler and really suited the city vibe. After our first dance I changed my ivory scarf out for a deep purple one and my headpiece for a cowboy hat. Eoin wore a dark green three-piece suit with brown belt and shoes and a gold tie.’

‘Our ceremony was intimate, funny and personal. We had 40 guests and everyone commented on how engaging and special it was. We had an acoustic singer and guitarist. I walked down the aisle to ‘Forever & Always’ – Bullet for My Valentine (Eoin’s choice, but special to Eoin and I. Traditionally a rock song but very beautiful sang acoustically). We signed the green folder to ‘Linger’ – The Cranberries and left the ceremony to ‘Fly Me to The Moon’ – Frank Sinatra.
Our celebrant was incredible and sprinkled some Irish into our ceremony. We did ring warming and a whisky ritual from a Quaike which everyone loved. Eoin’s groom’s woman, the previously mentioned friend who got us chatting the night we met, told the story of how we met and his best man read a beautiful poem in Irish.
Our intimate ceremony meant we were all sitting so close together and it felt really special.’

Our Photographer
Lisa Chonier was our photographer and she was incredible. I wanted someone to capture our day without breaking the bank and she completely exceeded our expectations. She was so efficient and the end result was spectacular. We get so many compliments on our photos and how efficient Lisa was on the day. Her ethos for weddings is fantastic – your wedding day is not a photo shoot. We hired her for 4 hours and I’d say we posed for 30-40 minutes. Our couple photoshoot was 15-20 minutes and the photos are out of this world. She got the photos back to us really quickly. She was so open to what photos we wanted and was so reassuring when I was worried about town being really busy due to multiple events on that day. Lisa was fantastic.
Lisa took some video clips while she was taking photos and it was perfect. A friend of mine also took videos throughout the day as she enjoys doing it and is good at creating content.

Favourite Memory
This is so hard to answer because our day was so fun-filled and I genuinely felt so present in every moment. Eoin and I took 15 minutes after our ceremony on our own, in a snug in the bar across the road, and it was so lovely catching up alone after the busy morning apart. I also stopped before walking up the aisle with my dad and looked around the room at everyone and took it all in. This was so special and important to not rush this moment.

Advice for other couples
My advice is stay true to yourselves and have the type of wedding you want, not the type of wedding that’s expected of you. Your wedding is about you as a couple, no one else. Don’t do something just because it’s tradition or because you feel pressured. Unfortunately, some people will make your wedding about them, and you’ll realise the people who really love you will support your decisions no matter what. Do what you want, because some people will give out no matter what you do!! You control the atmosphere, so put yourself first, enjoy the day, don’t sweat the little things, have a blast and everyone else will too!!
