Art deco, ‘Gatsby style’ weddings were a huge trend when Baz Luhrmann announced the release of his feast-for-the-eyes feature film back in 2012, and we’re happy to see the gold, glittery, dazzling theme has continued to be a huge one for weddings today. Art deco is a fabulous theme for couples who want to go all out on their big day – a fun, formal affair and the best excuse for friends and family to get dressed up to the nines and have a huge party!
Stationery, as always, is the best way to announce your theme to guests and there are plenty of ways to do this with this theme. We love the idea of going for black and gold, with stunning metallics intertwined along the way. When it comes to the big day décor, don’t be afraid of going big with full gold glitter tablecloths or runners (the one in our palette is from TableArtistLinens on Etsy), gorgeous glitter cake toppers are a must (find some fabby metallic letter cake toppers here) and, if you can stretch for it, a complete set of gold and black charger plates and vintage style cutlery (check out our directory for the best suppliers and stylists in the country to create this tablescape).
When it comes to fashion, if the full gold glitter dress isn’t for you, try a designer such as Temperley Bridal, Jenny Packham or Catherine Deane for a boho take on a vintage style. For accessories, we love Harriet Wilde’s embellished heels and the downright incredible headpieces from Gibson Bespoke, based in Belfast. For food and drink, serve cocktails in gold tipped Martini glasses, stacked macarons and only the most devilishly decadent desserts, preferably outdoors to the rhythm of a full brass band. All that’s left to say is – if you pull this theme off, can we come?
Tip! You can find lots of gorgeous gold wedding décor right here in the weddingsonline shop.
