Groom Fashion Throughout The Years

Is there that one suit that fits you best? Groom fashion has been documented much less than women’s dresses throughout history, but this does not mean men’s suits have stopped evolving. In 1975, a groom was required to dress up just as extravagantly as a woman on their wedding day. Often luxury materials like silk, velvet and pearls were used for this special day.

The Morning Dress

The style of wedding fashion changed after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s famous wedding in 1840. On that day, the Prince wore a field marshal’s uniform. This tradition is still exercised at royal weddings, up until this day. Prince also wore a morning suit which resulted in an influx of popularity for this garment. After that, the morning suit became very popular. Since 1850, Tail suits have been the standard outfit for weddings.

Current Wedding Fashion

Today, there are numerous wedding suit options to choose from. Many brands offer different shapes, colors, and styles. Not to mention the theme. Below you will find some of these themes and trends.

Raw / Bohemian style

If the bride has chosen a bohemian-styled dress, characterized by laces used in the wedding dress and generally a more relaxed look, then this style is probably the right fit. As a groom, you could opt for a suit made of linen or any other textured fabric. To nail this raw look, go for earthy colors like
camel or brown tones. Skip the tie, this will emphasize the relaxed bohemian lifestyle. Instead, wear a lovely waistcoat and finish your look with a matching pocket square.

Pastel Colors

This season, pastel colors are totally hot. Have you ever considered maroon or soft pink as your wedding color? If not, then keep pastels in mind. They are considered a color of elegance. It will complement a minimalistic-styled wedding. Stylish, classy, and different are but some keywords.

Spring

Royal blue is the color of spring. The sky is clear, and we are all ready for this blooming season. There are many shades of blue so why choose a dull color. A light or bright royal blue will do wonders.

Casual look

How casual do you want it? Some get married jeans. If this is you, be my guest. Otherwise, some neat chinos or suit pants and a white shirt will go a long way. Make sure to finish your look with a nifty belt to match your shoes.

Business suit for wedding

Suppose you would like to wear a professional suit to your wedding so that you can wear it afterwards for business purposes. This is possible, just make sure you style it according to your wedding theme.

A great combination would be a business suit with an off-white shirt and an ecru waistcoat. This combination looks classy and is often much cheaper than the standard wedding suit. The most popular color combination is a navy or mid-blue business suit paired with an off-white shirt and an ecru waistcoat, classy and stylish.
