What’s new in groomswear for 2016?
We have seen a return to the classics but with a modern twist. Clients are looking for something unique, suits that make their wedding stand out. Bold blue suits have almost reached saturation point leading to a resurgence in traditional wedding colours like grey and black and navy also remains on trend. Clients are also accessorising their suits with double breasted, tweed waistcoats and lapelled waistcoats for a more stylish 3 piece look.
What are your most popular styles?
Our recently launched Prestige Range from Wilvorst is proving very popular with its contemporary cut and feel. Made from 100% pure wool, these lightweight suits are from one of Europe’s top design houses and are exclusive to Bond Brothers. They’re available in both the classic morning suit and lounge suits and in a range of colours including black, grey and navy.
For grooms who want something a little bit different, what are the options?
We have many different options both to hire and buy for the groom. A popular option is the groom wearing a different waistcoat to the guys and maybe dressing it up with a pocket square, pocket watch and cuff links. We also carry a range of kilts that we hire for the totally adventurous groom and we can also get any family tartan that is registered in Scotland made to measure in the finest quality wools.
How would you suggest couples co-ordinate the colour of the bridesmaid dresses with the groomsmen’s suits?
You have to be careful when trying to match outfits. We often get brides coming in looking for waistcoats in burgundy and deep red, which can look too dark as a block colour on many groomsmen so if you really want to include these colours, it’s a good idea to work the colour in to the tie/cravat and then have another splash in the likes of the buttonhole flower. We find that silver and grey always work well. A charcoal suit works very well with pastel colours, accessorised with a platinum waistcoat and pale pink silk tie or cravat.
How long before the wedding date should suits be booked?
At Bond Brothers we recommend that you have your suits picked out at least 10-12 weeks in advance of the wedding date and then all final measurements in 6 weeks before. If you are looking for something a bit more unique or bespoke, then we recommend adding another 4 weeks onto that.
