We know what you’re thinking: “This is our dream day, how could we possibly hand bits of it over to other people?” Fair enough. But with hundreds of decisions and tasks standing between you and “I do”, trying to do it all yourselves is the quickest route to wedding day burnout, not bliss. Learning to delegate wedding tasks isn’t giving up control, it’s how you actually get to enjoy the day you’ve spent months planning.

How to delegate (without losing the plot)
Be open. Tell your friends and family you need a hand. You can decide how much detail to go into, but if you don’t ask, the answer’s always no.
Make a list. Jot down what needs doing and match each task to someone who’ll genuinely enjoy it, this is the easiest way to delegate wedding tasks without overthinking it.
Loop in your partner. Share how you’re both feeling and tackle the list together. Two heads (and two to-do apps) are better than one.
Wedding tasks you’re allowed to hand over
Hen and stag dos: leave the planning entirely to your wedding party. Just give them a vibe, whether that’s a weekend away, a big night out or a cosy night in, plus a few free dates.
Handwritten jobs: place cards, envelopes, anything that needs a steady hand and patience you don’t have left.
Assembly required: favours, invitation packs, anything that needs gluing, tying or folding.
The song list: let someone else start the playlist while you focus on the cake tasting.
Dress duty: ask someone to store your dress properly so it’s still picture-perfect on the big day.
Pick-ups and drop-offs: decor, favours, hired bits and bobs. All jobs that don’t need to be done by you.
Setting up the venue: this one’s for your venue team, planner or decor supplier, not your wedding party.
Top tip: match the task to the person. Your most organised mate? Give them pick-ups and deliveries. The crafty one? Hand over the favours. Delegating well is about playing to people’s strengths, not just offloading your to-do list.
Many hands really do make light wedding work, and the lighter your load, the more present you’ll be on the day itself.
