Build excitement from the start

Wedding day fun begins way before the Big Day! Send themed Save the Dates and invitations to get your guests excited. This is a fabulous way to hint at your wedding theme and begin building anticipation.

Use your wedding website to tell guests your love story and to give them clues about what to expect on your Big Day.

Choose a theme

We love seeing couples inject some personality into their wedding festivities by choosing a theme! Our Real Weddings are filled with creative ideas, like this couple who opted for a music theme or this bold couple who chose a black gothic wedding with a ‘Til Death’ theme!

Once you’ve selected a theme that fits your personalities, think of all the ways you can carry it through your wedding weekend. Consider the unexpected surprises that will keep guests on their toes.

Start the day right

Let’s begin the day the way we plan to continue; with lots of fun and keeping guests comfortable. Consider welcoming your guests to your ceremony with a warm (in winter) or cold (in summer) drink. Give everyone a printout of the plan for the day, along with your ceremony readings and some fun facts about you as a couple.

Make it interactive

Find creative ways to get your guests socialising and having fun together! You can create new friendships at your pre-wedding events, like the hen or stag party or a virtual wedding hangout, bringing together friends from the different parts of your life. You can’t manufacture these moments, but you can create space to get guests mingling. Mix up your seating arrangements, display photos of everyone, serve food in a buffet style or play a game together.

Think outside the ballroom

Often, the brainstorming can begin and end with your choice of wedding venue. When you’re hunting for the perfect venue, look beyond just the ballroom, where all the dancing and eating will take place. Find a venue that offers options to take gorgeous photos outside, or a cosy spot to huddle around a fireplace, or how about a lovely corner to set up a cute photo booth?

What you want to do is make your wedding authentic to you! While looking at venues, ask “Is this us?”.

Make your party, well, a party

Do whatever you can to create a party atmosphere and you’re guaranteed to keep your guests happy! Choose an incredible band (we have loads to choose from here) and get your guests involved by asking for their song requests ahead of time.

Surprise guests with unique wedding entertainment, like an interactive game, a comedian, a magician, live art, a dance performance or lesson, and end on a bang with a fireworks display!

Have fun snacks

You want your guests on the dance floor all night, right? Well make sure you’ve got some snacks and drinks to keep them going! We love Tayto packs, food bars, late night pizza, a candy station, dessert tables, good coffee and comfort food.

By this point, you would have already fed guests their main meal, so you don’t need to roll out an expensive, fancy dish. All guests need is food in whatever form you can dish it up. It doesn’t have to be world class, it just has to be plentiful.

Say goodbye to stiff traditions

We’re all for couples doing things their own way. If you’re into wedding traditions, then absolutely go for it. But if you’re not up for a bouquet toss, confetti or a first dance, then don’t include them.

You may want to extend this rule by relaxing the dress code, serving your favourite cocktail instead of Prosecco for the toasts, or ditching the speeches.

Be a good host

This one is really important if you want to plan the most fun wedding. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you look busy and you’ve got lots on the go, it really sets the tone for everybody else. But if you’re having a great time, you’re present and relaxed, your guests will feel the same.

In our Real Weddings, couples often advise one another to forget about the smaller details, stop stressing and just have fun because the day really flies by!
