Dublin based couple, Clionadh and Sam got married in Central Park, New York in May. Their wedding wasn’t quite an elopement; they each brought both of their parents along on the trip as their witnesses and guests to the wedding. A wedding is often viewed as a joining of families and bringing along parents on a trip like this is a great way for them to really get to know each other.
Clionadh and Sam had been together for thirteen years before getting married. They share a love for travel and enjoy visiting the USA. Sam proposed while they were on vacation in Yosemite National Park in California. So their engagement began in the USA, and ended in the USA, albeit in a very different park on the opposite side of the country.
After a year of being engaged, Clionadh found Claire at Wed in Central Park and got in touch.
“We knew from the start that we wanted a small, intimate wedding. We chose New York, a city we’ve spent a lot of time in over the years, and invited our parents to share in the ceremony, making it a truly meaningful experience. Our parents thought our non-traditional wedding was a brilliant idea” she said.
Claire has been planning weddings in Central Park since 2012, so she knows the park well. May and September are the most popular months for weddings in New York. Clionadh and Sam chose to get married in the Ladies’ Pavilion, which is beside Central Park Lake, and enjoys views of the iconic backdrop of the tall buildings behind the trees over the water. It’s a great choice for an intimate wedding like theirs, it’s about 5-10 minutes’ walk from the street and has benches inside for anyone who can’t stand for too long, and to sit down while you sign your marriage license. And, it has a roof, so they would be sheltered if there is any rain! In the end, it was quite foggy and misty on the day Clionadh and Sam got married.
Clionadh wore a white midi dress from Odd Muse and Sam wore a navy Hugo Boss suit. After the wedding and photos in Central Park, Clionadh and Sam, and their parents went on to the Rockefeller Center with their photographer to take some photos at the Top of the Rock. It’s quite popular for visiting couples to want to take some photos in their wedding gear in some of the iconic photo locations in New York City.
The whole group of six stayed for a total of three days in New York. They stayed in the Hard Rock Hotel, which is just off Times Square. Claire had arranged professional hair stylist and makeup artist to come to their room in the morning. She also arranged for their flowers to be delivered to their hotel on the morning of the wedding. They had white, pink and purple roses and peonies in the bouquet and bouttoniere, “they were the most beautiful flowers!” Clionadh said.
