It’s beginning to look a lot like winter, and who better to bring the white than one of our favourite designers! Jim Hjelm Bridal Collection 2010 is, shall we say, already one of our top for this year.
First, the ruffles, the RUFFLES. Not just soft and princessy, but dangerously sharp and sleek, these ruffles could be walking on any haute couture fashion catwalk (see especially the first dress). Basically, this is the perfect look if you want to send a statement: yes I’m a bride, but I’m not like the others.
Lace holds its own in the Jim Hjelm Bridal Collection 2010. On a few dresses, it is simply a cloud of intricate detail, but on the others, it plays a strong role. Check out the dresses with the lace shoulders below. If you imagine them without the lace shoulders, the dresses would lose something very special.
We love the slight disarrayed look of crumpled fabrics, which says, ‘I just got out of a limo, but I still look fahhhhbulous’. In fact, it’s one of the top bridal trends of 2010 – the unfinished look. Jim Hjelm does it like a master, that’s for sure. One of the ways he pulls it off is with the fabrics. None of them look flimsy or cloud-like – they are all heavy and arrange themselves around the bride perfectly. This heaviness of the fabric is balanced with a soft touch of fabric flowers. You’ll notice them on a few gowns. They are just a whisper, an accent, nothing overwhelming… but they add a lightness and almost inspire to come closer.
Of course, as with all fashion collections, do note how the models are styled. The hair is up in very simple up-dos, letting the gowns do all the talking. The other half of the models sport long, sleek, shiny free-flowing hair without any embellishments. Clearly, it’s working as a complete look. And finally, there’s hardly any jewellery. If you’d like to let your gown do the talking, wouldn’t this be the perfect look?
