Just Engaged?! Do These Five Things – Immediately!

Planning & Advice

Huge, huge congratulations! Welcome to your bridal era, you’re going to have fun!

Getting engaged is a very exciting and emotional time and it can feel overwhelming at the prospect of all the work and decisions ahead. It’s time to take a deep breath and listen to us.

Here are five things you should focus on as soon as that ring is on your finger…

1. Lap up and indulge in the engagement bubble

The ring is yours so it’s time to admire it, enjoy it, take selfies with it and care for it. If it needs resized, get on this job right now, it’ll calm your nerves no end. Be sure to add your ring to your house insurance and then take all the selfies your hearts desire. The period after initially getting engaged will be busy, your phone won’t ever stop with well wishes and everyone will want to hear the proposal story. Enjoy it, take it all in and don’t stress about the actual wedding, there’s lots of time to get the planning started.

2. Officially begin your wedding inspiration search

You’ve started here so that’s a great place to begin your inspiration search. WeddingsOnline share weekly Irish real weddings, destination weddings and elopements, daily wedding planning advice and inspiration and of course, a huge Recommended Supplier directory.

3. Bite the bullet and discuss a realistic wedding budget

Yes, the budget chat isn’t the most glamorous and can feel awkward, but the more you face it head on the easier it will become. Being chatting about realistically how much you can save for your day, or if you will have to lend money to throw the day of your dreams. If you have family who would like to contribute now is the time to discuss, again it might feel cringe, but you’ll be glad to have all your ducks in a row!

4. Time to get things going – we’re talking date, venue and guest list

Wedding venues will book at least two years in advance so bare that in mind when you begin thinking about your date. Narrow your choices down to a season firstly and then onto a month. Keep wedding guest availability in mind, weekday weddings may be more cost effective, but will your guests realistically be able to attend?

5. Celebrate and indulge a little bit more

Plan a party, celebrate and remember getting engaged is a huge milestone in your life and deserved to be celebrated, over and over again! There’s lots of planning on the horizon, but this moment deserves to be enjoyed – to the full.
