Ireland (and Leicestershire) Cricketer Niall O’Brien is marrying fiancée Bex this coming October. As brand ambassador for weddingsonline, we’re of course very keen to get all the details on Niall and Bex’ Big Day so we asked them both to share their thoughts on their wedding planning journey so far…
The couple: Rebecca Bailey & Niall John O’Brien
Length of engagement: 12 months | Wedding date: 3 October 2015
Wedding location: Northamptonshire
We met… At a local Bar in Northampton, Auntie Ruths. I was working there at the time playing for Northamptonshire cricket and Bex was a local!
Our proposal… We got engaged in a park near to our home in Leicester. We had just finished the Park Run; a 5k run. Niall dropped down on one knee surrounded by people in Lyrcra and with myself dripping in sweat! It must be love!
What type of wedding will you be having?
Niall: Old fashioned ceremony with a country reception.
Bex: We will be having a C of E (Church of England) and Catholic Wedding with a relaxed country reception at my family home in Northamptonshire. It is really important to us that it is a relaxed day surrounded by all our family and friends as well as ensuring that both Irish and English traditions are incorporated into the day.
How would you describe your approach to the wedding planning?
Bex: As I am a project manager by day this sort of thing is right up my street. My planning approach has been to cover off as much upfront as possible so that we can really enjoy the lead up to the day.
How did you split up the wedding tasks?
Niall: Entertainment and beverages!
Bex: All the rest!! No to be fair, things such as invitations, the marquee layout, wedding bands we have done together and really really enjoyed.
What are your favourite parts of the planning?
Niall: Picking a band for the evening reception.
Bex: All of it!! I love everything from the marquee layout right through to the button holes and midnight munchies treats!
What part of the planning are you/were you dreading?
Niall: The guest list!
Bex: The guest list! I was also dreading the whole wedding dress experience. The industry these days puts a lot of pressure on finding the ‘perfect dress’. It took a while but found my dress in a small boutique. Funnily it was exactly the dress I imagined I would get married in since I was a little girl.
What’s the most important thing about the wedding to you?
Niall: Enjoying the occasion.
Bex: Getting married to my best mate surrounded by the people that mean the most to us in our lives.
Do you find it hard trying to juggle travel, busy careers and wedding planning?
Niall: No, Bex has it all under control with her project plan and budget tracker!
Bex: Because we have had a reasonably long engagement, it has been really enjoyable doing it in chunks. No stress and maximum enjoyment!
What part of the wedding are you most looking forward to?
Niall: Waking out of the church with my wife!
Bex: To Say ‘I Do!’
