Blue & White Beauty: A Rustic Outdoor Italian Wedding

Real Weddings

“No matter where in the world you are getting married, you can’t control the weather!”

Limavady couple, Aine and Darrel always knew of each other but it wasn’t until 2009 when their friends started dating that they became friends and a relationship blossomed. Today we are delighted to share their rustic nuptials in Rome – wind and all – it turns out you can’t guarantee the weather no matter where you are in the world!

After getting engaged in July 2014 Aine and Darrel were sure they wanted to get married away from home, but didn’t really know where in the world they would say ‘I Do’.

“We were undecided between somewhere in the South of Ireland or somewhere sunny in Europe and we put in a lot of hours researching places on the internet. Eventually we came across Borgo di Tragliata in Rome, it sounded like exactly what we were after so we booked a trip to Italy in October to view and knew as soon as we got there that it was where we had to get married,” explained Aine.

Aine chose a simple, rustic theme to complement the surroundings, using lush floral displays and bouquets to add vibrant colour to the day. “We tended to gravitate towards all things rustic and floral. It was important to us that nothing was too formal or perfect as that wouldn’t have matched the venue or our own style,” Aine added.

Wearing a stunning Stephanie Allin gown Aine had quite the dilemma on her wedding morning.

“Despite flying the whole way to Italy to get married we still couldn’t escape the weather! On the wedding morning we woke up to what seem,ed like a tornado. As I was getting ready all I could hear outside was chairs and parasols flying and glasses smashing. I tried to ignore it up until the point our florist came to my suite in despair asking me to change the ceremony location from outside to inside for safety reasons. I won’t lie, there were tears! The carefully crafted vision I had for the ceremony with my beautiful floral arrangements had been blown away,” Aine said.

Not wanting to make the big decision on her own, Aine and Darrel broke the tradition of not seeing each other before the wedding to find a solution to their problem.

“We decided to hold the ceremony in a courtyard which was sheltered by some rustic buildings. The hotel were quick to act, got the area set up and the florist had to make a few amendments to the floral arrangements. Our wedding day coincided with the windiest day in Italian history!” added Aine.

After the setback of the weather, Aine and Darrel went on to have a picture perfect wedding day, the sun even came out, and looking back Aine has many special memories of the day, including her highlight, “Being serenaded into the wedding breakfast by Micky Martin singing ‘That’s Amore’ walking hand in hand with my husband.”
