Seamus & Nicola’s Wedding at The Brehon, Killarney

Real Weddings

We Irish are hardy, we don’t let silly things like blowing gales and lots of rain dampen our spirits, and no more so was that the case than for Nicola and Seamus, who recently celebrated their wedding on one of the worst days in November! Their day was captured in all its glory – rain included – by Ian Cronin.

This effervescent couple tied the knot in Balloonagh Chapel in Tralee and celebrated in The Brehon, Killarney surrounded by their friends and family and a total of 180 guests.

On our wedding day, even with all the cold and damp nothing could stop us from enjoying it! The chapel we were married in is very close to our hearts as my Grandaunt lived next door to it and prayed their everyday until she passed away four years ago. To enhance its natural beauty we decorated the chapel ourselves and were so happy with how it look on the day. We had many compliments afterwards from our guests.

Nicola had chosen a beautiful A line French lace dress from Sharon Hoey’s collection in Dublin and was attend by her bridesmaids in vibrant crimson gowns.

Seamus waited very nervously for my arrival and had warned me not to be late! He got very emotional moments before I walked down the aisle with my brother Mark who gave me away. It was Elaine, our videographer from Velvetine Studios who calmed his nerves as we made our entrance. Our priest Fr. Padraig Walsh made our ceremony very intimate and personal to us and our guests. He got a great cheer from the congregation when he gave out to Seamus for forgetting the first kiss, which I had to make the first move!

With the intimate ceremony and official photographs completed it was time for Nicola, Seamus and their guests to travel to the Brehon Hotel in Killarney for their reception.

From the moment we walked into the hotel it looked and felt magical. The drinks reception was beautifully decorated with fresh lilies, candle light and the soft tone of a harpist playing. Our guests were treated to a lavish drinks reception followed by an amazing meal.

To top the day off Seamus’ Dad Jimmy treated the couple and their guests to a surprise Irish dance display.

Jimmy has taught Irish dancing for over 45 years and finished the display as he danced the Blackbird with Seamus which was a wonderful surprise to all our guests including myself!

To sum it all up, it was our family and friends who shared our day with us that made it the most amazing special day of our lives and we are ever so grateful to them.
