Castle Cool! Vintage Style Wedding at Castle Dargan

Inspiration, Real Weddings

Our real wedding today comes from the glorious setting of Castle Dargan. Adelle and Peter were married in the breathtaking surroundings last July, with Denise Leacock Photography on hand to capture all the special details – of which there were many! We love the relaxed vibe of this wedding, you will too!

Adelle and Peter first met through a mutual friend almost ten years ago. Eight years after their ‘kind of blind date,’ they got engaged on Christmas day 2012.

“We had come down stairs to open our presents when Peter gave me a card, I opened it and as I took it out of the envelope it read “to my fiancée at Christmas.” I looked up and there he was in front of me on one knee with a box in is hand he then asked me would I marry him?….I said yes!” explained Adelle.

With both Adelle and Peter being pretty laid back and relaxed about organising their wedding it took almost six months after their engagement before they set a date!

“We originally thought  that we would go abroad to get married but a friend of ours mentioned Castle Dargan in Sligo. We looked it up online and instantly knew that was the venue for us! We then booked to see their wonderful wedding co-coordinator Kym and visited the venue. We both knew when we arrived and saw the stunning ground and facilities that this was the perfect venue for us. The grounds where amazing and from the wedding suite, the Ormsby Room, there where panoramic views of their stunning golf course which was also held old castle ruins. The most amazing part of the venue had to be the Victorian style house that was the bridal party accommodation, the house had some amazing features that we know would look amazing in photographs,” added Adelle.

With their date and venue chosen the couple then decided on Denise Leacock Photography to capture the day, and the rest of the details came together at a relaxed pace, including Adelle’s stunning Mori Lee dress.

“I didn’t really shop around too much for the dream dress. Firstly I started looking through wedding magazines and online for styles of dresses that I thought would suit me and that I liked. I then visited approximately three bridal shops choosing Perfect Day in Lurgan as my favourite shop where I knew I would find the dress.

My dress had the most amazing embellished sweetheart neckline with a mermaid style train. I decided to go for the light gold colour in the dress rather than the white version. The girls in Perfect day were amazing! I would definitely recommend them to any future bride, so much so that I went back there to choose my bridesmaids dresses,” said Adelle.

On the morning of their wedding the boys headed for a relaxed round of golf.

“Grace, our flower girl had gone out to see her daddy golfing and was sitting in the golf buggy watching, without her daddy noticing our groomsman Peter’s brother, Niall got into the buggy and started driving down the course! Gary, Grace’s daddy thought she had managed to start the buggy herself and drive off! He went running and shouting after the buggy only to realise that his groomsman, Niall was driving!” explained Adelle.

“The day was very relaxed from start to finish. We couldn’t have asked for a better day the weather was amazing which really set off the venue and the guests were able to relax in the glorious sunshine. The hotel staff were amazing, they were extremely attentive and couldn’t do enough for both us and our guests… everyone is still talking about our venue… especially the gravy! The highlight of the day had to be when the band, The Professionals, started a dance off. Firstly between themselves and one of our guests and then included Peter and his best man. The boys had to strut their stuff while everyone crowded around them. The dance floor was completely jammed at this point and the boys all pulled off some very impressive moves!” added Adelle.

Adelle’s Advice

Relax! Everything will fall into place!

Take time to stop, look around you and take in everything that is going on. The day can be so busy from start to finish and it can be very overwhelming so take time to see whats going on around you.
