Deborah & Luke’s Powerscourt Wedding

Real Weddings
Deborah and Luke's real wedding by Savo Photography
The garden county of Wicklow was the perfect backdrop to this white and elegant themed wedding. 7 years on, after a chance meeting on a night out with friends, Deborah and Luke celebrated their marriage with family and friends at the historic Powerscourt House in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow.  The day was captured beautifully by Savo Photography.

How we met

Where and When:

Luke and I met on a regular Saturday night out in Bray. I was out with my friends and he was with his. He took my seat and then we got talking. He took my number and he texted me to say he hoped I got home safely and then I was hooked.

First Impressions:

Deborah: From the first time I met Luke I thought he was a really kind and caring person. He had a wonderful personality and sense of humour which won me over from the beginning.
Luke: She was good looking and had a beautiful smile. I found her easy to talk to and wanted to know more.

First Date:

Bray Cinema Feb 2003. After we met in Bray, Luke texted me to see how I was and would I like to meet up. I jumped at the chance to see him again. We decided to go the cinema and it was a little bit awkward for the first five minutes but after that we got on so well.

The Proposal

Luke and I were together for  6 years and our anniversary was coming up. Luke took me away to the Radisson in Stillorgan for the weekend. I didn’t know what was going on but we got ready for dinner and he asked me if I’d like to go for a walk in the gardens before dinner which we did. He was acting so weird; he wouldn’t let me touch his jacket but as we were leaving the gardens after walking around he called my name and when I turned around he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. I couldn’t believe what happened. My ring was amazing; I couldn’t believe he picked it out for me.

The Big Day

Wedding Theme / Colour Scheme:

White and Elegant.

What we were thinking:

Deborah: I was really relaxed. I spent the night at my family home and I really enjoyed just relaxing and chatting with my family. The hairdresser and make up artist came to the house so there was no rushing around.
Luke: I was excited and nervous. Excited about seeing Deborah and her becoming my wife, nervous about the speech and the emotions of the whole day.

Before I walked down the aisle, I:

Was a little bit nervous and excited to see Luke. I gripped my dad’s arm for dear life and just hoped I wouldn’t trip walking up the aisle.

When we first saw each other:

Deborah: I couldn’t believe how handsome he looked in his suit. I actually couldn’t believe the day had come and we were getting married.
Luke: She looked amazing, so beautiful. I thought to myself how lucky I am to be marrying her today.

Our music:

The Rose
Ava Maria
Panis Angelicus
The church music was chosen by the music teacher in the school I work in. Jackie really helped me to pick the music and she really did a wonderful job; the music was amazing.

We chose “Baby I Love You” from the Ramones for our first dance because it was the first dance we danced together on the night we met.

Funniest moment:

Luke gave me his right hand instead of his left and I was trying to shove the ring onto the wrong hand. It helped to brake the ice and Fr. Kevin reasured me that it doesn’t matter what hand I put it on we were still married.

Most emotional moment:

Deborah: For me the most emotional part of the day was when we were saying our vows. I found it very emotional saying them.
Luke: During my speech standing in front of everyone introducing Deborah as my wife.

Most surprising moment:

Was during the reception. My aunt Anne had arranged for the tenor Des Wilaby to perform at the reception. It was amazing he really added to our day.

Most magical moment:

Deborah: The most magical moment for me was during Luke’s speech. He really did an amazing job, but when he referred to me as he wife for the first time it made me feel amazing.
Luke: Our first dance as husaband and wife, holding Deborah in my arms and not wanting to let go.

Any other memories from The Big Day:

The whole day went by so fast. But every second of the day was amazing. We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful day. We would like to thank everyone from both of our families for all the love, help and support on the run up to and the day of our wedding. They all helped to make our day so amazing!
