Destination Wedding: Intimate Garden Wedding of Katja and Matic in Slovenia

Real Weddings

Ever since Katja and Matic’s incredible Slovenian wedding dropped in to our inbox we have been super excited to share it with you all. If you’re considering a destination wedding that oozes style and sophistication this is the wedding for you! Thanks to destination photographers, Katja and Simon for getting in touch!

“Slovenia has just recently been discovered as a destination wedding location, but most of the weddings happen in Lake Bled. We were so happy to have been able to be a part of this wedding at Novo Celje in Slovenia,” said photographer Katja.

Katja and Matic chose a summer garden feel for their wedding day.

“We wanted immediate family and closest friends to join us in an intimate, personal ceremony that would be followed by a laid back dinner party. And we knew we wanted to celebrate outside. We first came across the venue, a fine dining restaurant adjacent to an 18th century mansion and historic tree park, on the Internet. We arranged a meeting with their in-house wedding planner and it felt right from the moment we got there. The venue itself looked as we hoped – natural and relaxed – but kindness and generosity of the people working at the restaurant, that would also be our caterer, was what made our minds. When we tried the food served there we were hooked!” explained Katja.

Katja wore the most incredible wedding gown from the Croatian wedding designer, Envy Room. “When I first saw it on the Internet I was pretty sure that would be the dress I would get married in. I was looking for a simple design, something that would resemble my personal style and I wanted lace. That dress had everything I wanted, so I didn’t even look further. Everyone was shocked how easy it was!” she added.

The couple chose a string quartet to entertain the guests during the formal reception followed by their own playlists created on Apple Music. Decor for the day was kept simple with help from friends and family. “Our friends and family had helped us gather some old stuff, like books, suitcase and telephone, that we arranged around the venue, to give it a rustic feel. We had photos of us hung on twine, wrapped around the tree trunks. Wooden chairs and hanging overhead lighting added extra charm to the whole setting. As the night progressed, the stars came out, the lights and candles shined brighter, and the venue became even more beautiful,” added Katja.

To accent the summer garden wedding concept, flowers were kept simple, neutral in tone and natural looking. They decided on all-white flowers with some greenery. Floral arrangements and bridal bouquet included peonies, roses, hydrangeas and baby breath.

“We knew we wanted Katja and Simon to photograph our wedding ever since we had first seen their work online – even before we got engaged – because we simply loved their photography style and sense of aesthetics. We liked how they made they us feel comfortable and relaxed during the photo shoot. The photos they made reflect the atmosphere and emotions of the day perfectly. We could not have chosen a better team to capture our day and will be forever grateful to them for the beautiful memories they gave us!” said Katja.

Our Highlights

Beside our first look, one of the most sentimental moments was when my (bride’s) parents presented us with a bottle of pear spirit that my grandparents had wrapped in newspaper of the day I was born, to be opened on the day of my wedding. Sadly, my grandparents are no longer with us, but their incredibly attentive gesture made us remember them on our special day.
